They have literally given the middle finger to customers and front line employees in the last 4 days.

Can they not restore or reset their system to get a start over, then deal with stranded customers separately?

Curious how SWA rallies from this.

A bunch of them will be quitting Southwest for this.

The nation’s attention span is short. Something else will make headlines. At the end of the day, people need cheap airfares and prefer direct flights, rather than routing through a hub on a layover.

Southwest will be fine.

They operate like spirit but with higher prices. Delta, American and United are essentially all I will travel on domestically.

Disagree. Southwest’s service, comfort of flights, and experience are light years ahead of spirit.

all things equal, I’d fly United. But southwest goes direct to 90% of the places I need to go. I also like that I’m not paying additional money to pick a seat or bring luggage.

I haven’t followed much today but the lack of communication from SWA is alarming. It’s like their legal team told to not say a damn thing outside of corporate speak.

You’d think they would be going above and beyond to cater to the customers right now while they “reset.” They’re literally burning their brand.

The brand implication is what is most concerning long term for the company. They are turning loyal customers into enemies and the lifetime value is immense. Short-term, the pain isn’t even close to over but long-term they could be creating a generation that refuses to trust them ever again.

Those responsible are in CYA mode and only looking out for themselves.

Let me walk you through this...

Only airline to give coach 2 bags fly free.

Only airline to routinely let your base fares cancel and retain credit to be applied to future flights.

No matter how bad this is...the value is still there for a large majority of customers until another equally viable option emerges.

You don't think it how it be but it do.

I'd just unplug and and plug it back in. Or, if it is from the late '80s or early '90s they may need to blow in it a time or two.

This isn’t about losing the majority of their customer base. The things you listed will retain the majority of customers and this event will be forgiven. The customer lifetime value issue is for the 10% of their customers (or whatever percentage) that won’t let this pass.

Cash and Time are king to Americans. SW will retain almost all its customers either due to convenience (direct flights) or because they're cheaper than competition. Combination of both, on top of value.

Worst fall out is people avoid SW at Christmas time.
