This is only half correct. SWA competes using a system of planes and crews that never stray far from their home airports so to speak. Others use spoke and hub concepts.

Weather disruptions impact SWA far more when crews or planes are stranded in comparison to the other major airlines.

Hence why United/American saw approx 40 cancellations apiece and Delta (ATL Hub) saw fewer than 15 during the Weather issues and why SWA had to cancel the majority of its flights.

It’s system for crews and planes has to reset after a significant issue. The only way for them to do that is to get the planes and crews back to their home airports and start over again.

You couple that with outdated IT and tech to organize things and it led to mass chaos. But they’ll be back to normal by next week if not the weekend.

humiliating? In what way?

I'm not a "fanboy" of any airline since I don't really fly all that often. Full disclosure Delta and SW are the only domestic airlins I've ever flown so that's my only personal experience.

But I found nothing embarassing or humiliating about the process, and appreciate that it does somethign different than Delta whihc in turn generally lends itself to lower fares. They make the boarding process as clear as can be with the numbered partition things. If you want to board sooner, you either pay for it or check in on the dot. I've never had a signle issue flying SW.

Boeing to dumb down newer models of 737s for fleet standardization,

They still don’t have power ports in their new planes to charge a phone. Ridiculous. Besides the cattle car experience (which is most domestic airline experiences) the lack of plugs behind each seat just sucks.

Anyone got insight on what MSY is like currently? Trying to get to DAL this afternoon and wondering if it’s still a shitshow.

I know that but even as a business traveler, update the cabin. I don't need fancy colorful lighting that changes. Give me a plug in and infotainment options. I just bring a book when I do choose to fly SWA and turn off my phone to save battery.

I hear you but WN has always been sort of like taking the subway, no frills, no meal service, no interline baggage, etc., they’re just getting out of their lane a bit, and apparently have neglected the technological upkeep as the airline has grown, they’ll probably get it straightened out

In the spirit of global warming, I better not hear one Karen bitching. Fewer airplanes in the air supports your narrative.

Anyone have any luck with mileage as well as new flight cost? Had to drive 5 hours to a different airport

Yep, send the receipts and explain what it is. Reference the time and day on the receipt as compared to your original flight vs the one you ended up taking.

I’m sure they will reimburse everything if you have receipts. SW cancelled our flights on Tuesday and we bought next day one way delta flights for $1700 that they’re reimbursing.

You think they cover the mileage though? I’m going to try it - I’ll report back.

You got gas at some point in those 5 hours and kept the receipt, right? If so they will definitely cover that. If you mean like 3 cents a mile or whatever like a job would, idk about that. But hey give it a try.

They did not approve the mileage.
