I've lived up North for awhile but finally am in a home I am responsible for snow removal.

For the snow dwellers, what is the strategy for snow on huge powder days? We are nearing a foot so far. I used the snow blower this morning and my wife & I have cleared it with a shovel 5 times throughout the day. My wife just made me shovel so it doesn't build up too much for tomorrow AM (which I didn't want to do ).

Is the better strategy to wait until it's enough to use the snow blower and not bother with the shorter interval shoveling?

Will hang up and listen!

All I know is that snow shoveling is the number one leading cause of death for husky, middle-aged dudes with naggy wives. Be careful, baw.

Grew up in BR. Lived in Rhode Island for 10+Y now. Couple tips-

-always throw down some salt/ice melt down before a big snow.
-Go out every couple hours if you can but dont bother if its windy & steadily coming. Itll just drift right back up 15min. later
-depending on the temp when it falls will determine weight of snow..nothing worse than 32 degree snow/winter mix as its heavy AF. Gimme under 30 all day long. Light and fluffy.
-get the # for a good plow guy for over 6in (TWSS)

Depends….if it is powder, I’d wait. If it is slushy, heavy snow I’d want to shovel incrementally so it wouldn’t be too much work.

Are you clearing driveway and sidewalks? Clear in morning before work, clear again after dinner. F the rest.

Depends on how much. If it’s a foot, wait and use the snow blower. I don’t know. It’s alway best to try and do it in a few phases

Rookie mistake.

Just wait for the snow to clear and do it all at once. Makes no sense to shovel multiple times

Then clear again when the plow fills the end of your driveway with several feet of packed snow.

That's what I told me wife!

She is the Northerner so she bullies me about snow, which is ironic because today was the first time she's ever touched a snow shovel!

Maybe for you Massholes.. but down here in South County we get that slushy mix. Easier to hit it a few times rather than letting it build up IMO

I moved back down south and took a job paying $50,000 per year less to get away from it.

What are you clearing specifically? I like heated mats for things like pathways, or front steps.

If you get a snowblower coat the gears/sleeve with some of this silicon lub to keep it from freezing/sticking
