My neighbor has 6 year old twins and they say they are free range parents. The one twin was at my house yesterday playing with my kids and her dad came to pick them up for dinner. He had no idea the other twin wasn’t here and said the kid was probably walking the neighborhood. We live an hour away from this situation. I couldn’t believe it.

I'm all for teaching your kids independence but that is flat out irresponsible.

Cannot watch at work. Any summary from the news conference?
"Authorities have identified a man whose body was found during the search for Faye Marie Swetlik in Cayce Thursday.
Coty Scott Taylor, 30, was found dead shortly after Faye's body was found Thursday morning.
Investigators said Taylor was linked to the investigation into Faye's death and that he was not a relative or friend of Faye's family.
"He was merely a neighbor," Antley told reporters at a Friday afternoon press conference. Taylor did not have a criminal history and was not known to law enforcement, according to Antley.
6-year-old Faye was reported missing Monday afternoon about an hour after getting off of her school bus near her home in the Churchill Heights neighborhood in Cayce.
Investigators from Cayce DPS, the Lexington County Sheriff's Office, the State Law Enforcement Division and the FBI searched the neighborhood for days."
On Thursday, investigators followed sanitation trucks around the neighborhood as they emptied trash cans.
Antley said a critical item connected to the case was found in a trash can belonging to a residence at 602 Picadilly Square. That home sits about 100 to 150 feet from the home where Swetlik, he said.
As investigators were in the early planning stages of the renewed search, Cayce DPS Director Byron Snelgrove found the Faye's body in a wooded area near Taylor's home.
Antley said investigators do not believe she was in that location for very long before her body was found.
A short time later, investigators found Taylor's body inside his home at 602 Picadilly Square.
The investigation is ongoing. Antley said authorities are working to determine whether anyone else was involved.
Autopsies are scheduled Saturday for both Faye Swetlik and Taylor.

The male whose body was found at 602 Picadilly in Cayce in the same neighborhood (Churchill Heights) was linked to Faye's death. Coty Taylor's facebook That's his Facebook page but there isn't much on it. He was 30 yrs old and other than being a neighbor, completely unknown to Faye's family. Never interacted with him. They found something in his trash can that tipped them off the day they found her body. They had repeatedly searched the same area her body was ultimately found in and said she had to have been very recently placed there. They also said that they had interviewed all neighbors and "turned their homes and properties upside down" several times, including Coty Taylor. The autopsies of both Faye and the guy will be performed tomorrow and a press conference will be held tomorrow evening to release that info.

Thanks. I posted some of the news in my post above. This is so sad.

I live in Cayce on the river. I didn't even hear about this until yesterday...

Reads like this 30yo killed the little girl and then offed himself.

Hell I'm across the river from you in Cola and I just now ran across this.
Never received an amber alert on my phone either.

My first thought after going through the topic.

This is baffling. I wonder where he had her during the search? I pray he didn't torture this child for several days. A good thing about him taking his own life is that they will not have to endure a trial and hear all the horrid details and see photographs no parent should ever have to see.
I remember the case of Samantha Runnion and how awful that was. Also, the case of Danielle van Dam. Horrendous.

So terribly sad.
If you're thinking about killing yourself, get help. If you will kill yourself, why take an innocent child with you.

Man
I wonder how long she was dead prior to going through Taylors house? If there was a chance to find her alive.

I'm having a really hard time with this one

You must live under a rock (or in a van). It's been on every tv station and radio and I've heard it discussed everywhere here in Columbia.
Dude knew to kill himself as he wouldn't have made it 24 hours in jail. Criminals hate anyone that hurts a child.
Makes you wonder how long he has been watching this little girl. I hope Satan tortures him for eternity.

This is so fricked up. frick this world. I used to run around the neighborhood as a kid with not a care in the world. The neighbors all knew me. If I did something wrong you bet one of them told my parents. Now you’ve got sick frickers living next door to you and you have no idea. Everyone locks their doors and closes their blinds and hides from each other bc we’ve allowed sick people to control our world

I can't imagine anyone trying to hurt anyone, but to hurt a defenses little girl - I just don't even want to acknowledge that these people exist in the world.

What a horrible turn with this story, so the creepy neighbor murdered her?
Posted on 2/14/20 at 2:29 pm to genteellady
