Do we still sail across the Atlantic to discover America? I wonder how many people could still build the Pinta or the Santa Maria - I doubt there are many. There's been no point in going back to the moon - that's why we stopped. The people involved in the program are all gone - the Saturn V is a dead program. Funding for alternative programs isn't abundant.

Have we explored 100% of the moon to confirm this? To my knowledge, there’s a lot of parts of earth that we don’t know Jack shite about. This whole we didn’t find anything useful is bogus dude.

Wait - you're denying LEO stuff, too? FFS, you can see the ISS with the naked eye, my guy.

No just the moon landing. China and Russia would have sent a man to the moon or another planet by now if it was possible to do so. It's not. We can send rockets and robots long range all day, but humans have never been to the moon or beyond.

Well WTF is there that matters? It was just an really expensive playground and a cool thing to talk about for a while. What's on the moon that we care about?

And hell, one CME from the Sun and everyone on the moon is fried anyway. How are you going to protect those people?

Again, is your moon belief your opinion or do have absolute proof that we didn't go to the moon?

Im an idiot for believing we never went to the moon? No man since has ever been out of orbit. Not from another country or this one with infinite more tech than the 60s.

This is like Columbus discovering America and then Ferdinand saying there's nothing there so no point in me going.

I can't believe that I'm in this thread talking to these morons - I guess I'm bored - this is the dumbest thing I've engaged in a long time

What's on the moon that matters? America has incredible resources - so what is on the moon that makes it worthwhile other than the novelty? Maybe it can be a refueling station for travel to Mars at some point - explain why we need to be there.

Imagine 10 years ago, Walmart selling 3D televisions, and now 10 years later, Walmart is no longer selling 3D televisions.

just like the “idiots” who upvote OP, I hate to say you may be an idiot if you’re upvoting this post because I doubt you realize the ISS is in low earth orbit. The ISS, like other satellites, are in low earth orbit below the lower Van Allen belt. Without reading the thread I’m guessing those saying we don’t have the technology to go to the moon today are referring to the Van Allen Radiation belt. No person has been beyond them to the moon or outer space since the Apollo missions, apparently due to the fear of the damaging radiation.

How Did Nasa Solve The Van Allen Radiation Belt?
quote:

The ISS (and space shuttles of a generation ago) are over 100 miles away from the Van Allen Belt as the innermost belt is at its closest point.

China can't even launch a rocket without it re-entering the atmosphere in a wildly uncontrolled fashion... and Russia is struggling to send men to a neighboring country. I should point out Russia is still using 60s technology, the fricking soyuz
