We’ve been doing sidewalk enhancement projects in that area for a few years now. We call it “The Pimp to Hoe Initiative”. Connecting the business community

You transplant Towne Center at its height to North Baton Rouge at at least half the stores would be shuttered within 2 years.

This is a good thing. A lot to like about that area with Airport and it extends to Airline near interstate. That corridor actually has economic potential, much more than Airline Hwy between I-110 and I-12.

If we were serious about economic development in north Baton Rouge, a huge portion of that population would be in jail.

My husband and I ran over to Tony's around Mother's Day, and I was surprised at the road construction in that area. Looked so much better than I remember.

Honestly, I would travel all over the greater BR area to shop and dine if I feel the area is safe. I regularly go to Zachary, Gonzales, and even St. Francisville, too. It's not like I'm stuck in my St. George bubble and won't leave.

That being said, our judges need to get on the same page and imprison the criminals who make this city worse for everyone.

The craziest part is that the "soft on crime" policies overwhelmingly affect people in the lowest socioeconomic class and make their living spaces horrible. People with money just move to the next great place, aka suburban sprawl. The people with money don't want to shop/dine/socialize in crime-ridden areas. This is not that hard to understand.

The first target in the plan is the Delmont Economic Development District to leverage sales and use taxes for improvements

These used to be ways for areas to use state funds for organized improvements.

Now they're just not so hidden sales taxes. I typically vote no on these, but they always pass because "Economic Development District" has a good ring to it. Then they add a sales tax and people throw a fit but can't do anything about it because the district council has the power to do it. Such as the LSU Arena funding issue.

(Hopefully hyperbole) Next up; sales tax towards NIL in the LSU and Southern Economic Development Districts.

And what specifically do you think will locate there? If it has such potential, why aren't the businesses there already?

Isn't this the same area where the pols begged & screamed for a new box-type grocery store to open? And when one did, it closed around 5 yrs later because of massive theft & high employee turnover due to safety fears?

I know it's cliche by now, but not having to spend our money here was exactly why SG was created in the first place. Especially something as asinine and stupid as this fricking grift will be. In the past, SBR's tax revenue would have been wasted on this dumb shite without our input but elections have consequences. That area has spent a generation wasting money on things that won't help anything in the slightest. This won't either. There's no "economic mecca" even possible in this area and everyone on earth is painfully aware of it.

NBR is cash strapped. Take whatever money you're planning on just throwing into this idiotic void, hire more cops with it, put more cameras in the area, and focus on actually enforcing the laws. There's a lot more steps to follow before wasting money on this kind of stuff.

I feel like we’ve been “revitalizing” Plank Rd for 20 years now.

1) that area of BR used to be an economic mecca. The 70805 zip code was blue collar, young families, just starting out in life. That started changing in the 80s. But even in the 90s/early 00s, the airline area of north Baton Rouge still had a lot of businesses and restaurants. Has anyone asked him why it changed?

2) if his plan does work end up working and businesses and economic growth starts happening, a certain population will be accused of gentrification.

more like

- They will spend money and get some things developed.
- no one will patronize, not even the locals.
- crime will strip the new development of anything that isnt bolted down.... and most of which is bolted down.
- It stays stuck like a war torn country.

If you have never driven through NBR.... dont. But if you decide to, it literally is like a war torn 1950s scene. I was shocked when i had to drive through it for work.

Money will be stolen and wasted. It’s never about improvements. It’s about the grift.

But I hope I’m wrong and they can turn that area around.
