I'd rather spend money on taking my family to Disney than what these parents are spending on kids for travel ball at age 8 - which is probably the same or more. All because they think their kid will get the next NIL deal when in reality, they won't make the high school team.

You’re equating going to disney world with going to florida panhandle?

A week in Destin at a VRBO or Airbnb is pretty expensive these days. Still, not as expensive as Disney for same time frame.

You're smart enough and on tOT enough to get the point he's making.

Adults everywhere in there, going crazy over kids in purple and yellow. It’s not my cup of tea. I’m sure I’m into things that get that childhood nostalgia going.

It just seems super pricey, and a crowded and commercialized experience that doesn’t scream “fun”.

Inversely, it's not hard to see this through the eyes of the Disney fans if looking at a Saturday in and around Tiger Stadium.

My kids are between 6 and 12 and we've taken them twice. Took them to the Rockies over the summer this year and they've decided national parks are the best vacations. So we will be doing that from now on. Which I'm 1000% on board with

how much do season tickets cost now? Parking? Concessions? Or if you tailgate??

I think you’ve reached life goals if you tailgate at LSU in your RV and then also use your RV to camp at Disney!!

I like Disney and I like Universal. I'm in my 30's. I only go once every 7 years or so, but it always reminds me of the times when things were simple. It makes me feel like a kid again and I appreciate that. It's not for everyone, sure, but it's a nostalgic place. The thrill rides are fun and getting drunk at Epcot is one of my favorite things to do. It's just a nice change of pace from the normal bullshite we all have to deal with daily.

Growing up in the 70s I loved Peter Pan, Jungle Book, Pooh etc. Seeing the rides come to life was good childhood memories.

That said the crowds and the wokeness have done it for me along with the price.

I am glad I took my kids a couple times but there are much better places to go because it is not a vacation - it is a beat down.

Cost has nothing to do with the fact that a beach trip to destin/30A and a trip to disney are completely different styles of vacation.

That's like comparing a trip to manhattan and a trip to napa valley. They could be equally as expensive but they are not really comparable experiences.

the need for constant stimulation.

I get it among kids and adults with kids. The childless adult "Disney freaks" are just strange.

My oldest has asked about disney one time. We were already planning a trip to a lake house on cape cod, so I asked him if he’d rather go to a lake, ride on boats and catch a couple of cape league and sox games. He said yes and now he asks when we’re going back there every 3 months or so.

Hasnt brought up disney since.

I have nothing against Disney in general, but I did not grow up in a "Disney family". Sure, I've seen all the movies of my childhood, but it wasn't a thing beyond that.

I stopped even watching the preteen Disney shows at a fairly young age. I was a very strange child who got addicted to Travel Channel and HGTV and even Home Shopping Network because I wanted to do what all those people did for a living when I grew up.

We went to Disney World only once, and by the time they finally took us, I was in 7th grade and already had braces on my teeth/wasn't interested as much. Not exactly the magical years.

As adults, my brother and I both don't have kids, so there's just nothing nostalgic or even fresh pulling me to go there. Although I'm sure I could have a good time if I had to be there for some reason.

We went on a work trip to Orlando this past year, and the outing to Disney Springs was overwhelming as hell. Crowds basically pulled you where to go.

I worked WDW at Jungle Cruise in my college years. I pretty amazing seeing families having a great time and children's faces light up when they see their favorite character. I really enjoyed being a JC Skipper. The guest were amazing and pretty cool being within 1 foot of Michael Jordan while he was getting off a boat.

That's what it's all about and Walt's vision.

Not really an informed decision though, is it? You steered the hell out of him and keep leading him away from choosing Disney, so he doesn’t know what it’s like.

Isn’t this the life of a little kid? Parents call the shots. They took me to Disney when I was 4. I didn’t know Disneyland existed until they took me, and it was fun. The next trip included snowy mountains and a ballgame. My parents didn’t consult with me about summer trips.

Disney isn’t really my thing. But people like what they like. Some people like seeing historical places, golfing, fishing, going to Vegas, going to the beach, cruising, etc. Others don’t care for those things.

I’d imagine there is a nice combination of suspension of reality and amenities. As long as they aren’t hurting anyone, good for them I guess.

what do you do that makes it feel this way?

We’ve taken the kids 4 times and always had a great experience.

But we have fun no matter where we go.

The OTers saying they take their kids (or would take their kids) to Europe over Disney or the beach make laugh. Zero chance your shithead kid appreciates walking around the Louvre or the Tower of London.
