I’m sorry but nothing can be done. Clear the scene and let the parade continue.

Yeah, while the person’s blood and other bits still remain on the street, but there’s bands to hear and beads to catch so let’s just roll on!

Idiot.

You can see legs being dragged.

Damn you can definitely see the legs at one point. It’s not the guy that’s running. Really sucks if he was pushed or something.

In hindsight, my tarp comment was pretty innocuous.

You have thousands at the entire parade but look at the video there weren’t thousands of people trying to get to the float.

Was it the person that you see moving towards the float, or was that a reaction to the person already hit?

This isn’t necessarily true.

Plenty of people are perfectly happy to sit back a good ways from the floats.

Looks like he's running to flag down the driver.

I’ve felt the crowd crush downtown. I think it’s overpopulated, and made worse by ladders and barricades.

NOPD doesn’t have the capacity to control this. Neither does Jazz Fest when it happened at Elton John.

I’m telling you the dude was crushed against his will.

When these tandem floats first came out there was decorated fabric across the gap so the whole thing appeared seamless.

This would also be a good way to prevent people from getting into this space.

The video shows a rather sparse crowd with ample room to move around.

This is idiotic. There are hundreds of thousands of drunk, many overly so, and it’s never been like this. It’s stupidity.

Wait, so I'm an idiot for saying that there may be consequences for everyone else because a select few drunk/not aware/dumb arse people get themselves killed watching a parade? Okay...

I didn't mention it in my other post because I figured it goes without saying you have to be a huge dumbass to get run over by a parade float at Mardi Gras.

My other suggestion besides guard rails is to mandatory a 5ft distance law that if you come within 5 feet, you will be reprimanded.

Yes. We just need more laws and regulations. That may not make everything better but at least we can feel better. Because of course people have to be saved from themselves by government and it’s government’s job to make sure people watch their kids.

Ever hear of crowd crush? Not enough barriers in populated areas that result in everyone trying to get in front (past the ladders and structures) that you MIGHT not have a choice but to get run over. I felt crowd crush last year downtown for Endymion and I left. You can’t control it.

Get the frick out of here.

Nobody made you get in front of everyone and directly in the line of a float
