Its a shite ton of college kids not really the hood. Everyone works or is in school so no one is really around much during the day.

Any gun recommendations for home protection?

1857 Enfield with bayonet. Shoot them in the leg then stab them in the intestines.

If you want actual home protection and not just a cool pistol, get a shotgun. A Remington 870 can be had for cheap and will absolutely do the job

Being able to just point and play while being half asleep and in the dark makes better sense than having a pistol, that and the fact that I cant keep a gun in my vehicle because of work has me leaning more in this direction.

If a bunch of crackheads are jonesing, they will return.

Well I figure they should know by now that:
A. There's someone different in there now
B. There's no drugs

Either way, if they come back while I'm there there'll be less crackheads in the world which is a win win for everyone.

Ditto.

I would trust my life in close quarters with my Mossberg M88. It's only me so I'm not particularly worried about over-penetration but I personally prefer birdshot just due to the spread in a close environment. I'm going to experiment with staggering my shells next time I go to the range.

Dude. Crackheads aren't hanging out at the Country Club. You know where they're hanging out? The hood.

Since (a) you don't own a firearm and (b) you have to ask what firearm to buy, one can readily deduce that (c) you know nothing about operating one, nor (d) how to defend yourself with one.

You really need to go find an instructor that knows how to teach a novice. After some training you'll know (e) what to buy and (f) how to use it. Hopefully you'll also learn (g) when you're legally allowed to use it.

Hint: Someone beating on your door isn't justification.

Hint #2: Shooting someone with a firearm shouldn't be considered "play."

Remington 870, 12 gauge pump shotgun. The sound of the shell jacking into the gun strikes fear into anyone. ?

It does, but it also potentially gives your position away.

Well one would readily deduce wrong. I've hunted all my life, I've also owned a rifle and shotgun, just sold them when I got too busy to hunt much and when I did I just always used my dad's guns because he has like 15. And I know the laws, my brother is a cop and was a military policeman before that. I've just never bought a gun intended solely for self defense and never owned a handgun period besides a .22 pistol and wanted some opinions. However I probably find an instructor just so I'd be compeletely on top of everything if shite hit the fan.

I cant, trapped in the lease for another 6 months, its not a terrible area really, there's single girls living by themselves here. I think its all going from whoever had this apartment before me. I've lived here 6 months though and haven't had any problems at all though so idk.

Just get a Remington or mossberg pump. Or even an inexpensive break action single shot 20 gauge. Need to be mindful of your neighbors when it comes to shell selection. I think I read somewhere that 00 buck can penetrate 9 layers of drywall. 5 or 6 shot high brass field load to the knee or groin will drop anyone.
