I've been to one in my life and it was actually a pretty good time. Bought a full mead horn, a turkey leg and a nice hardwood, carved walking stick perfect for skull-cracking.

people hungering for the kind of community their parents and grandparents had, even if its a fantasy version of it. Nothing wrong with it imo.
I haven't been in years and wasn't interested due to covid restrictions, may go this year. Bring the kids and bring cash and try to get them interested in history even if its just titties wooden swords and turkey legs.
