How do you know they were "obvious predators" ?

You never “know” until you are a victim, but you can make a sound guess using race, age, posture, dress and attitude.

Only one kid was robbed so I guess we were lucky.

There were multiple guys on every block on bourbon just leaning against the walls of buildings on the street just watching crowd, not trying to sell you anything, get you into a club, tell you where you got your shoes etc. Looked like spotters to me, maybe they some legitimate purpose.

I have never been followed off bourbon street before, ever and just like most everyone on here assumed the shite was over after the botched pick pocket. My wife glanced behind us and said i think someone is following us after we hit Canal, which i thought was her being paranoid but i glanced back and sure as hell it was at least one of the same guys.

It was our fault, she didn’t take off all her jewelry like I told her, and we should have taken cab back, but damn I thought you guys were Exaggerating the danger, but you were not.

Plus the damn ambulances, cops, fire truck sirens for hours every night (not parade related as after 11pm) make it damn near impossible to sleep downtown.

This all started because we were starving after spending all day, fixing rooms for kids, picking them up at airport, etc and didn’t have time to eat and didn’t know mr Bs, dickie brennan’s, even cafes etc all closed at 9pm. Live n learn

I don't believe you, you wanted this to happen because you wanted to talk about it.

On this note, 2 coworkers from our of town were pickpocketed/bump robbed this past Saturday in NO.

Another coworker from out of town got their vehicle broken into on Monday.

OP sounds like my sister in law who is almost a victim of a crime weekly at the grocery store.

This is fricking spot-on and hilarious. He sound exactly like them women who post shite like this weekly:
"Be careful Y'ALL. Someone tried to steal by baby at Hobby Lobby today"

then, as we got to crowded section two thugs tried the whole "bump and lift" (very amateur with it btw)

Probably close to 20 years ago; I think around the time of the Illinois/LSU Sugar Bowl, I witnessed some kid try this move on Bourbon. His would-be victim grabbed the kid's arm and punched him so hard I thought his head might have popped off. He came to as he was getting trampled by head in the sky drunks. Hopefully, it was a lesson learned for the young lad, and he had some midnight basketball to attend.

Why would 60-somethings be in the French Quarter on Mardi Gras weekend? Naive much? I'm 32, work in the city, and I sprinted to my car yesterday at 4PM and high-tailed it out of there. I want nothing to do with New Orleans right now.

What a pussy. Crime is pretty wild right now but you aren't being robbed every time you step outside. I swear some of you exaggerate so much about how dangerous it is, and this is coming from someone actively attempting to relocate out the city.

Well, you could have helped yourself and been strapped. Makes me question your thought process to go to the quarter at night with no weapon. Just doesn't seem smart...

People seem to think that NO is some kind of "shangrila."

NO is a cesspool

Do they still have th cameras up? Meaning the old FQ live feed cameras that were on NOLA.com etc?

Be curious to see what a normal weekend looks like and what Mardi Gras Saturday b4 Fat Tuesday is like. Compared to my college days and mid 20’s

If you don't carry in NOLA and shoot those...people...in their fricking face when they try to rob you, you're wrong.

. This!

I have a friend, middle-aged white woman, who lives in Metairie near Met Rd and Codifer. She's afraid to go outside b/c of the "crime". I'm legit not exaggerating. I haven't seen her outside in months. She won't meet friends out in Metairie for dinner or drinks b/c "it will get dark before we're finished" .

Stop patronizing NOLA. Hit them where it hurts. Maybe they will get the message eventually.
