His name is David Eubank, and while he is a former special forces member, he's not a soldier. He was an unarmed voluneer for the Free Burma Rangers, who helps rescue people in conflicts.

And a fightin' Texas Aggie.

I need more info on this. They volunteer to follow soldiers into battle and run out and save people?

The backwards cap guy is an American Navy Seal, Ephraim Mattos. He was shot through his calf about a minute after this gif while he was covering the groups retreat to safety.

I'm no military expert, but aren't you supposed to run out after covering fire starts first, not before?

I stand corrected and I’m even more impressed by his actions after that information. Although I will say that sure looks like a firearm in a holster on his right hip...
