If you want to know how much life is increasing while you are getting left behind on "4%" raises. You are now making less money. Slowly the upper crust are making everyone below equal and crushing the American dream. Europe 2.0.
School supply prices have increased significantly for the 2026–2027 school year, driven by rising manufacturing costs, higher energy and diesel transport expenses, and new import tariffs. Overall K-12 spending is projected to hit $43.3 billion, with individual families facing average price spikes of 10% to 27% on core classroom items and packed lunches.
Biggest Price Increases
Notebooks and index cards: Up 20% to 23%.
Scissors: Up about 14%.
Glue sticks and dry-erase markers: Up 8%.
Pencils, crayons, and binders: Up 5% to 7%.
Packed Lunch Cost Jumps
Lunch boxes: Up roughly 27% compared to last year.
Blueberries (12 oz): Up 48%.
Sandwich bread: Up 22%.
Apple juice: Up 20%.

A small price to pay to keep Iran from dropping the big one

let them drop it. probably would solve a lot of problems of trying to provide for the people that don't provide for themselves.

So you're paying about $10 more, total?
A better, and more relevant, inflation analysis would be health insurance.
Company-wide, our costs have increased 7% a year for the past 10+ years.
That's a big number.

Yearly raises are a joke. The last 2 years my raise has offset rising insurance costs. Making the same take home I was before 2 full yearly raises.

Connect this back to socialism for me.

None of what you mentioned is any way related to socialism. Be more obvious that you just use “socialism” for any economic reality that you don’t like.

The Democratic party is becoming more socialist by the minute.

Looks like OP dropped in the initial paragraph blaming socialism and then copy and pasted an AI blurb about the specifics of school supply inflation and didn’t even read it. Failing to realize that the reasons given for inflation are almost the opposite of socialism.

Yep. It is sad I have to pay taxes for your child to attend school.

That is probably true, but for the millions of kids that go to the public schools across the country it doesn’t matter. A kid can show up with nothing and nothing will happen, nor should it. We pay taxes for these public schools and kids will not and shouldn’t be turned away because of the lack of a school supply list.

Indexes are great for investing. Not really taking advice on my money from El Gaucho. My Roth I max out every year has a lot of indexes and about 1/3 are Vanguard ETFs and maybe one mutual fund or two. My Vanguard growth ETF is killing it. I also make strategic buys on the market. I got Nvidia at 110 after it dropped.
