Vipassana Meditation may even help.
I don't know about this, but I can say Mindfulness meditation helped me tremendously. Not only dealing with alcohol, but several other personal issues. Headspace is a great app to dive in to this.

though not healthy, I found smoking a cigar helps.
Cigars, like anything else in moderation is perfectly fine. Nothing unhealthy about it. Now if you’re smoking 4-5 a week, that’s a way different story.

I feel this so much. I hope you're able to do better, brother. You've already kicked my arse in terms of doing well. If you made it that far before, then you can do it again, and even more so.

The holidays are always hard, not mention all of the other stressors in 2020. I quit for almost two years and (generally) felt better and didn't miss it much. I got sick and started drinking almost immediately after I completed radiation. COVID soon followed ...
I'm drinking like a fish again.
You can stop. I've done it before, so I know you can too. Good luck.

Start a new hobby, work, workout. Get a routine and make a habit out of it. Idle time will get you in trouble

Meditation and breathing is something we all should try, IMO. Even measuring inhalations per minute is a cool exercise. Getting it lower over time really is remarkable

Give yourself a “why” or reason and let it motivate you
You only need to be sober one day at a time

My sister was a drug addict. Today she is a new woman with 10 years of sobriety. She doesn’t skip on AA meetings. She just lost her sponsor three weeks ago but my sister has remained strong. She is always looking to pick others up with encouragement and tough love.
My sister’s problems began when she was 15 and continued into her 40’s. She worked at many food establishments/restaurants and bars to support herself. But her friends did not really care about her. She asked for helped and failed. But she kept trying and turned her life around. She is an amazing beautiful lady. Never give up. It can be done ! But each day is a goal in itself.

Get a sponsor with at least 5 years.
Do whatever they say.
Dont you even think of opening your mouth about barriers to meetings or getting a sponsor or work schedules or whatever.
Either its the most important thing and you will admit loss of control and no clue on how to get your life in order, or you just are not ready.
Start tonight with open 12 step meetings online, discords, etc. Did you have other plans for tonight? You have a new plan now.

Hang in there homie. Dont beat yourself up.
I used to be a heroin and coke addict. I have 2.5 years clean now. I went to treatment and used the 12 step method, but the biggest thing was that I was ready for something different.
But like others have said, meditation was a huge tool for me. I use the Insight Timer app. It has a lot of free meditations.
Its a lot of work at first but it gets easier for real. I don't have any cravings or anything like that these days.

I'll be 7 months sober next Tuesday after a decade of raging alcoholism and cocaine addiction. Hell the other night I had a dream that I was getting fricked up at the house I grew up in and that entire day I had terrible anxiety over it. It's not easy but man life is so much better without drugs and alcohol. Words don't do it justice. This Christmas was my first sober Christmas since I was 15 years old. MY father is doing life in prison so my grandparents have raised me since I was a teenager. I walked in the door and the joy and emotion my 71 year old tough as nails Vietnam Vet Paw Paw showed... Man I will never forget it.
It gets better man. If I can get sober anyone can. Take care bud and I hope you can pull through.
