Will it be spread by a virus, a parasite? I think it will be a prion personally. Or, it could be some type of mass hysteria, an infectious schizophrenia of sorts. What does the collective genius of the OT think?

A prion? Why would you think that? That’d be a terrible zombie cause
I’m thinking something more like a drug or chemical substance so that it affects the person rapidly, alters their brain to the point they are effectively zombies, and is about to be transmitted via bodily fluid.
There may be diminishing returns on subsequent infectivity down the line but initially it’d be enough to spread person to person
