We were at Sam's in Denham Springs this morning for a normal shopping trip. It's normally very quiet at the time we went. This morning there were long lines and baskets full of toilet paper and other staples, so I suspect some of it is a reaction to the port strike.

Dumbass’s

Toilet paper for Costco and maybe Sam’s is made in Zachary at Georgia Pacific from Louisiana trees. Not running out of that.

Baton Rouge water is not imported either.

Dumbass’s.

The most immediate effect on supply chains will be from the storm. Lots of chicken processing plants went down in GA and the Carolinas. Freezers quit , etc

There could be a chicken shortage for the next 2-4 weeks until they get rolling again.

The dock worker strike will affect the apparel retailers stocking up for the holidays. But lots of them saw this coming months ago and there was a big run on merchandise over the summer.

So it will hurt the mom and pop retailers way faster than the big box stores who had time to plan. Plus they have bicoastal supply chains with redundancy.

I’m worried about construction materials. Houston is still waiting on insurance and contractors. Now the damage from Helene and the port strike could cause a supply chain issue on materials.

Jokes on them. I still have some covid toilet paper in my closet.

The US exports Toilet Paper and made 800% above papermill nameplate capacity in 2020 due idiots hoarding it. Massive turnarounds with lots of worn out parts in 2021 but they sure as hell made serious bank

This is a nightmare for the Harris Campaign. She’s going to make a light of it and the news will hardly talk about it.

Why panic? Goods will still get into US through west coast ports. Could be more expensive as cost go up to move them to east coast by truck or air.?

You obviously haven’t been keeping up.

I keep asking but our ports also ship stuff out, is there not going to be an excess of something? Like bourbon for example that was shipping out? Bourbon has a long shelf like so what else?

I think the agriculture industry will likely see impacts. Read an article a week or so back that some pork producers were already rerouting to the western ports.

Just left Sam’s in Covington.

Only toilet paper left was a half pallet of 60 grit.

All other stock was sold out & aisle was bare.

Literally a line of people in the aisle getting what was left….

CRAZY!
