Wouldn't it be possible they qualify for some FEMA aid? Since a state of emergency has been declared?

I'm hoping this becomes an option for my elderly parents.

Yeah, we'll get FEMA aid. No idea how much. Homeowners in new orleans actually received hazard mitigation money to elevate their houses, on top of actual repairs. It took years, though.

The federal government that everyone (including myself) bitches about will save them from their poor decisions.

These people better get aid. Taxpayers who've paid in for years and years and years are the ones deserve it, it's their/our money.

Whatever money FEMA gives will be minimal. As far as rebuilding your home, SBA loans are the norm. They are usually low interest

fricked.

Family is staring 200k plus damage with no flood insurance. I mean if you're not close to a flood zone and your house hasn't flooded ever, why would you have it?

Yeah, and I'll be grateful for it. I dropped my flood insurance only two months ago after getting an LOMR. I was so happy to stop paying $4k a year due to inaccurate maps that I didn't consider just opting for the cheap X-zone insurance. Yeah, this was the 500-year event, but I'd still consider my decision to be a poor one. So now I'm fricked, and I'm probably going to need help.

As of last night, FEMA had allocated 19.4 million to Louisiana. There's over 19.4 million of damage in denham alone.

So people that lived in areas that haven't flooded in hundreds of years should have carried flood insurance? How much is that earthquake rider on your homeowners policy, Captain Hindsight?

I can remember feeling silly Friday calling to ask my dad if they were ok. He said they were fine. Remember getting off phone thinking "well duh, of course they are ok, they live in a trailer several feet off the ground"

This is all just unreal

I guarantee you that the people who get the most money will be renters who don't pay taxes. Makes me sick to think about.

The widespread fraud after Katrina in BR was unconscionable

The Feds could appropriate funds for flood victims but that would be bordering socialism and you can't have that.

Of course there is. FEMA does not exist to reimburse all damages.

So you are saying the entire state is a flood zone, right? Are you being an arse on purpose, or are you truly this stupid?
