i like Dave, the owner, and i like the building, but i had my first and last meal there about a month ago. the food sucked. they may have hired cooks away from george's. george's used to be a regular place for me, but the last 3 times cured me from every going back.

Seriously, how much focaccia and tomato soup do these people want? It's like they never had a home cooked meal.
Funny how the demographics at the tables look for lunch and supper. Families, suits, young fratastic couples. Hippies run the place and sit at the bar. Hippies are the worst but the reputation of the food speaks for itself. Fish, Burger, chili, MOJO poboy in addition to the gay shite you mentioned. But hate away. I won't miss the place much. Just hope it gets renovated and reopens. Dave is out because he's focusing on Beer Garden and Radio.

Chelsea's was definitely not a "shithole".
I agree and it's a shame. Chelsea's is a rare thing for this town; a music venue that books artistically not-vomit-inducing bands.
Baton Rouge is truly in the midst of the doldrums.

Zee Zee will be much improved, chelseas, dave is making more money doing bar shite elsewhere. Somewhere Murphy is pumping his fist in anger and triumph at the same time.

It was rumored a while ago that a Happy's was taking over ZeeZee Gardens.

I hadn't heard that but I did hear that someone has bought Zee Zee's and wants to be open by St Paddy's day

I guess the coolest thing about the place was the pool table. I'd get key'd up and straight run that table baw. Foosball too. That was my turf.
All those emo waitresses and their herpes made me nervous. Like they were mad I was there partying and having fun.

It won't be a Happys. I heard a rumor somebody involved with Barcadia is taking Zee Zees over. It might be the guy who runs the kitchen there now.

I wonder if the owners of any of the overpass bars really have an interest in competing anymore. Other than Chelsea's (live entertainment with food) I can't think of a bar down there that would "win" head-to-head with their competition (similar concept bars) elsewhere in town. The theme for that area seems to be "old smokey dives" in a time where less and less people smoke every year.

Thought they owned the building.

George's = food
Ivar's = women
ZZ's = chilling
There is a different group of people that go to overpass bars. You couldn't stick them downtown or in Tigerland

What? No, that area is nicer than it's ever been. New developments along Perkins, high property values, easily accessible location.

Perkins lost their two best bars. Glad I got out when I did.

Zee Zee's has been bought and being renovated. Dave was tired of the owners of building/booking bands and food..he's got half of radio bar and doing beer garden. It had its run, but anyone shitting on Chelseas probably sucks to be around.
