I went there on accident one night with a chick, and it was amateur techno DJ night. Promptly left and went to get a martini at Duvic's to pretend I was fancy

When Kevin Shingleton had it (or was running it), he told me Kevin Riley (building owner) was going to jack the rent up. Wilson came a long and did get sick so he could not be "hands on". Last I heard, Kevin Riley had some bigger $$ offers for the place and that is what happened. I think lease/rent $$ is also involved in the equation at Chelsea's.
As you said, Wilson is a great guy.
As a side note....Kevin Shingleton is no longer at George's Highland.

ZeeZee's - owners didn't want to do it anymore, clientele sucked (who likes hanging out with loser ex frat dudes who smoke constantly?)
Chelsea's - landlord is old BR money. thinks Chelsea's does good because of the building, not because of the brand. Chelsea's owner owns Radio Bar, soon to own a beer garden and tons of rentals - doesn't need Chelsea's so he's calling landlord's bluff and closing shop. May open up again in a new location after the beer garden opens.
There you go.

Chelsea's was definitely not a "shithole".
I use to go have some drinks there after work, went there to eat on a few occasions and never had a bad experience.. Well, I did run into a no parking sign once, but I had been drinking and it was dark.

So what happened to Zee Zee Gardens and Chelsea's
Zee Zees was sold and will re-open...

Place is much too cool a building to be nothing but a dank shithole dump dive bar. Hopefully, someone can class it up, while avoiding becoming a contrived Sysco distributor.

The jukebox over there takes 30 minutes to restart and the fast forward button on the back is actually a reset button

I once went to Chelsea's in undergrad to see a show of a friend's band, and one of my friends was turning 21 at midnight. We showed up for about 11:40. Door guy didn't give my friend a wristband.
Annoyed but undeterred in our goal to have a good time, I tried buying a pitcher of some cheap beer as first round. For some reason, they wouldn't do a pitcher for anything "lower" than Shiner, which was $15 for a fricking pitcher. There were like 20 people at the bar at this point. Don't think I ever went back to that shithole.

Yeah, that's why we never shut the jukebox down at closing.

Is this recent? I used to love that George's, but the last few times I've been there food has been blah.
Was Riley the property owner for Chelsea's and Zee Zee?

Ordered a shrimp poboy at Chelsea's two weeks ago for lunch. It came old cold and soggy and got sent back. I see why they are going out of bidness.
