Someone could have bottle fed it and raised it. I've done that many times when a cow has twins and rejects one
Oh, OH! So now I guess you want my respect?
...you bet, Tex.

ETA: But, shite. I was taught not to take baby birds out of the nest when I was like...6? Do they only teach kids this in the South?

Is there really no hope for it after it gets rejected?

It can always hope another idiot drives by and throws it in the back of his SUV.

SMH. This is like those people that freak out over a dog being in a car. HELLOOO, they are animals, they can withstand the heat and elements.

Yellowstone isn't a farm or a zoo.
Considering that they removed the top predator from the park and the animals have little to no fear of humans, it's not far removed from a zoo.

Did they at least eat the meat?
Buffalo wings are really good.

They could have given it to a bison farm. There are a number of farms that would have welcomed it.

Cabelas' diner would know what to do with it.
Spicy Bison Sandwich
Bison Zesty Sandwich
Tender Bison Salad
BLT-Bison Lettuce & Cheese. Preferably Pepper Jack!

Most of today's dog breeds descended from the dingo which spends its entire life in the Australian desert in 120 degree conditions. I think my German Shepard will be okay in my car for 30 minutes.

There should be repercussions for being stupid.

So they killed the calf because it's family rejected it?
Seems kind of extreme.

There is a reason they did what they did:
(this is from YNP's website): "In order to ship the calf out of the park, it would have had to go through months of quarantine to be monitored for brucellosis. No approved quarantine facilities exist at this time, and we don't have the capacity to care for a calf that's too young to forage on its own. Nor is it the mission of the National Park Service to rescue animals: our goal is to maintain the ecological processes of Yellowstone.

Wolves are plentiful in the park and have thrived since reintroduction in 1995. There's over 10 packs and 100 wolves.
