Depends on how it’s accomplished. There are theoretical warp in spacetime possibilities that wouldn’t destroy the “original”, but there’s an argument to be made that that is simply travel, not teleportation.

Really it all boils down to energy. All of the collective human brain power should be put into solving that issue.

I’ll take my fossil fuel based automobile. You all volunteer to see if it’s travel or not.

We don’t even truly understand gravity yet. We’ve got a long way to go

It’s ok. We’ve got people doing African American studies and sports management

I’m glad trump put an emphasis back on NASA/space force. It’s one of those things that you can’t afford to ignore for a decade if you want to make real progress

Quantum physics is some brain-breaking stuff. I have extreme difficulty comprehending anything I ever read or watch about it. I instantly feel stupid.

Meh, I’ll be curious to see if much comes of it. We can make plenty of improvements that involve the economies of space travel, but at the end of the day, we are still shooting missiles out of the atmosphere. Until we can fundamentally change how we go about moving through spacetime, we’re stuck with poking around on a handful of (rather boring) rocks.

Reality is that we won’t have teleportation until a sophisticated AI comes up with a way to do it.

Yep. No way they make horse carriages move without horses either.

yes it was just photons

Saying it was "just" photons is a massive understatement. First, the photons weren't transported. They were entangled with other photons so their "state" was transported. They didn't actually transport a light particle, they transported information about the light particle.

That's still very useful, it's transferring data using quantum entanglement. Eventually we might "transport" ourselves in this manner, but it won't be transportation, it will essentially be 3D printing a "copy" of yourself.

From the actual source for the article.

quote:

quantum teleportation allows faithful transfer of unknown quantum states from one object to another over long distance2, without physical travelling of the object itself.

Potentially extremely interesting for communication, though. Being able to transmit data instantaneously would make a long term space voyage vastly more practical.

Nope.

But after the last thread, I’m reticent to respond more than that
