They really need to work on automating as much of City Hall as possible. I’m usually not for that but I cannot stand to be inside that place. The people are so lazy and ugly toward people who just want to get in and out of there.

While this idea is terrible it is still better than Nagain's plan to move city hall the Chevron building in the CBD.

It doesn’t effect my quality of life.
People wanting to do business in the city many times have to make a trip or two into city hall. I’ve been in the place when the hallways were leaking water. It’s a dump and not a good look for someone wanting to do business in the city.
I’m not advocating for anything, I have no bones in the fight, just saying it’s a deplorable dump

They should just carve out some space amongst the Hard Rock rubble.

I would like to see the Municipal Auditorium saved and put to good use. Like Charity Hospital, it is a historic and architecturally significant building that left been left there to rot.

Who owns Charity? Does the state still own it?

My biggest takeaway:
The city needs 650,000 square feet of office space? What a joke and a waste. There is no reason for a government to need that much space to employ that many people. They could cut that down to half, without a doubt. Probably more.

But one fact emerged - the Municipal Auditorium is way too small for a new City Hall.
The mayor’s plan splits city government into 2 buildings a mile apart.
The renovated Municipal Auditorium will provide less than 200,000 square feet of space, considerably smaller than the 360,000 square feet at the present City Hall, and the total of 650,000 square feet the City presently uses by leasing additional office space.

As a small business owner who has to City Hall for various licensing, tax and admin issues, I can already hear this:
“Oh hells naw, you gots to get that form signed in the other building and then come back over here to pay. By the way, you will need to pay to park again when you come back.”

This blows my mind. City Hall is a dump and is terribly programmed as a building but the City is renting almost as much outside office space as they have in City Hall??
A real leader would cut City staff in half while consolidating S&WB into DPW.

If someone is basing their decision to do or not to business in the city based off of what city hall looks like, then that person hasn’t done his or her homework.
Just go look at the partially collapsed building on canal street with 2 dead bodies still inside. That should tell you all you need to know.

Yes, it's a joke. But no democrat mayor will EVER cut city staff. The city government is a jobs program and a hiding place for people who are unemployable elsewhere.
Everything from garbage, to road maintenance to sewers SHOULD be contracted and outsourced to private business.
