re: So Is the OJ Thing Really Viewed As an "Us v. Whitey/Establishment" Thing?

A member of the jury has openly acknowledged that they knew he was guilty, but they let off OJ simply for Rodney King. Another juror gave a "black power" symbol leaving the court room. And your coworkers should be ashamed of themselves.

I was a freshman at LSU when the verdict happened. My algebra teacher cancelled class that day so we could all see the verdict.
I walked into Kirby Smith and everyone was crowded around the 1970's era console TV they had in the lobby. When Not Guilty was read out, all the blacks in the crowd started cheering and singing. All us cracker arse crackers were like "oh, ok" and went about our business.
When the verdict was read, a tall black dude turned to me and said "You white mutha frickas are lucky. If he was guilty, we would've been rioting all over your white asses."
I guess they saw this as some sort of cathartic win for the struggling black man.

So long as Ford mails the check directly to the Goldmans and Browns, I wouldn't have any issue with it.

Go back and look at how the judicial system has fricked over black people throughout the history of America and you will find the source. Add in mob justice from instances like Tulsa and Florida and it paints a clearer picture.

I'm pretty comfortable saying that almost every non-black liberal in the country knows he's guilty.

Was future earnings part of the decision he paid to their families?

The only thing they can't touch is his pension and house in Florida.

Which is a lot right? Between his NFL and SAG pensions?

In the original trial it was a big split along racial lines. OJ is no different than any other celebrity or politician that has gotten away with murder. If you have the $$$$, you can do just about anything
He served his time for this recent crime, so I'm good with this decision of parole.

They did. You have to go back to that time. Black people in LA and the nation watched video of several white cops beating the shite out of Rodney King. Whether it was justified or not I can't say. I wasn't on the jury and didn't hear all of the evidence presented. However, most black folks viewed the cops escaping criminal conviction as absolute proof that the "system" was rigged against them and the cops could do whatever they wanted to black people with impunity.
The two years later the OJ thing happens and it was a black man accused of killing two white people. The defense was the racist LAPD tried to frame OJ for the murders. When he was found not guilty many black folks saw it as a "win" for black people against a corrupt system slanted against them. Deep down, I think most knew OJ killed Ron and Nicole, but they didn't care because it was one of the few instances where a black man was found not guilty for a heinous crime against white people. One in which the police tried to "frame" the accused black man. In a perverse way it was seen as a "win"

No, you are not hte only one. It would be a marketing genius. They have a niche market, the killer-on-the-go

I saw yesterday where if he had taken a plea deal for the robbery he would only have served about 30 months. Prosecutor said he rolled the dice again and lost this time.

What's funny is that blacks see this as them winning when in reality they were just pawns in OJ's game to get out of a double murder. He left his black wife and family for a white woman, refused to involve himself in any kind of racial or civil rights movement and kept company exclusively with whites and other black celebrities. Blackness only became useful to OJ when it benefited him. It's sad how easily duped many in the black community can be.
Amen.
And the same could be said for many black celebrities today.
I will defend people when I see that they have values worth defending. However this is not the case with OJ.
As a black person, I don't see how OJs win is in anyway beneficial to the REAL racism faced by blacks pre Civil Rights Act and even in isolated cases today.
I also love the fact that you comment on how rich he was. That is the other standard that many Blacks ignore. At the end of day, money talks. There are a lot of racist people who would put their beliefs aside if you give them enough money.

I'm sure Nicole's family and the Goldman's will take solace in that.

OJs trial was always like this. AAs have known, from my readings, for a longtime that perceptions, attitudes and judgements change when the victims color, race, gender, or creed deviates from the majority.
Point blank --- we show more empathy for victims of the in-group as opposed to the Out-group. We're quicker to project disparaging, false, wrong, and unflattering stereotypes against the outgroup.
We're seeing it right now with the Aussie. She's not even America and she's getting a lot more defense than Castille and other victims ever got. What's the worse is that esle biases are apparent to everyone else. Yet some folks are dogged in their denial of statistical and objective observations and facts

We have a tendency to purposely ignore or just not give a damn how much the deplorable and unsavory treatment of AAs and POC has altered their history, current standings, wealth, health, etc.
It's like beating up a kid, leaving him crippled, and then blaming him for not running the race at same pace as all the other able people. It's preposterous.
