re: So Is the OJ Thing Really Viewed As an "Us v. Whitey/Establishment" Thing?

When the verdict was read, a tall black dude turned to me and said "You white mutha frickas are lucky. If he was guilty, we would've been rioting all over your white asses."

How does that work? They can't seize ALL of his earnings, right? Is it not a percentage like child support or something?
I don't believe a garnishment can go over a certain percentage, but doesn't matter how much OJ makes. He can't buy ANYTHING of any value.
Let's say OJ makes ten million dollars and let's say the garnishment cap is 25%. So, Fred Goldman goes after his portion of OJ's earnings and gets his 2.5 million, leaving OJ with 7.5 million. OJ goes out and buys a Ferrari. Suddenly, OJ no longer has a Ferrari because the courts seized it and auctioned it off to help pay down the 33 million dollar judgment left from the wrongful death suit. OJ wants to buy a house? Okay, that flies because in Florida, your homestead is protected from seizure. OJ wants to buy a second house? Seized. Rolex? Seized. At some point, even the cash left over after garnishment is going to be targetted. Just because there's a limit on the amount you can garnish automatically from any paycheck doesn't mean that Fred Goldman can't go in front of a judge to try to convince the courts to seize the remainder of the cash to offset a portion of the outstanding judgment.
Until OJ pays off that judgment against him, Fred Goldman is going to ensure that OJ is harassed anytime he so much as looks at a twenty dollar bill.

I just love how the dad is all over his arse with anything OJ gets. Sells his memorabilia? Where's my cut fricker!!? Like a damned mobster.
Like a damned person trying to get his on the tragedy of his son's demise.

I know that a lot of the black community saw his 1995 "not guilty" verdict as payback for various past racial stuff. But, I don't see why they would really care to celebrate him getting out of prison for committing an entirely different crime at this point years later.
He (OJ) had alienated the black community for quite a while before the initial trial and was only dating white women. It would be like me, a middle class working guy, taking time to celebrate some old out of touch rich white guy who finally got out of jail (early by the way) after being found to have committed a crime.

I've heard that argument. Like, blacks were all of the sudden set free by Lincoln, and then expected to snap their fingers and acclimate. Kind of like poring water out of a bucket and expecting it to keep form.
I absolutely understand that through three or even four generations.
But America is the absolute best place on earth to be a black man. Or a white man. Or Chinese. Or Irish. Or Arab.
Because you have the power in this generation to do literally everything and anything you want. If anything past transgressions against black folk has done, it has made you too quick to make excuses. You have become ingrained with victim mentality. THAT is the root of the problems in the black community.
Anyone in this country who wasn't born with the natural inclination to seek out challenges and also appreciate an opportunity to dust yourself off and resolve to show the man who spited you how wrong he was has NEVER had a problem finding any amount of sucess he truly wants.

I'm sure Nicole's family and the Goldman's will take solace in that.

OJs verdict was absolutely a payback for the Rodney King beating and acquittal of those officers. That's how blacks everywhere saw it. Especially in LA. White folks just saw it as craziness and ineptitude in LA DA office. And listening to a white dude (Furman) lie about NEVER using the N-word, then hear it on audio. We all cringed. I knew at that point it was 50/50.
Trust me, if the situations and histories were reversed, whites would feel the same.
Look at our Jewish brothers and sisters. They'll never play down be holocaust. Nor should hey

White people are far from some homogenous cultural identity and hive mind. White really has no meaning.

Funny because most black people I have met admit that he was likely guilty of murder but more proud that he was able to beat the system with the deck stacked against him. The ones I know could give a shite that he was paroled for a bonehead armed robbery conviction.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the grief the Brown and Goldman families have gone through. What you refer to is wrong and should never happen, but how does that have any relevance to whether or not OJ was guilty? You know, I bet OJ has a good laugh at people like you once he gets out. He conned people into thinking he was a great guy, and then he conned black people into thinking he was one of them in order to use their anger to his benefit at trial. OJ Simpson cares nothing about you or black issues. He cares only about himself.

I don't care one way or another. Hopefully he lives a quiet life with his family from here on out. He was kind of a maniac after he was acquitted of the murders and really made a fool of himself.

OJ murdered two people. He Served no time in jail. He gloated after the trail. He showed very little compassion for his ex wife or Ronald Goldman.
Simpson got screwed Roger Goodell style for a robbery. 9 years was a judicial payback.
OJ is 70 years old. He probably has 8-12 years left on this earth. I hope he finds peace with God and attempts to be contrite for past behavior. I hope he lays low and forges meaningful relationships with his kids and family. I pray that OJ has changed for the better but I have doubts. Hopefully, his remaking years will stop being about his ego and his story.

I still remember seeing a table of black kids celebrating after he was acquitted during my 8th grade year at Brother Martin. To that point In my relatively sheltered life I had never really witnessed anything seemingly divided along racial lines as the verdict appeared to be when it was announced.
