Tried to buy the wife a Yukon a week or two ago. Dealer had it advertised for $70k online. We go to pick it up and the salesman calls and says that there's a $10k markup on the Yukons. So final price would be over $80k. Told him he can sell to the next dumbass that wants it.

I get the demand is high, but I can also wait until prices inevitably tumble in the near future.

So have pin stripes.

And tru-coat.

And vin etching

It's all dealer/distributor overpriced padding.

The "market adjustment" is just galling, but it is what it is in this market. Thankfully I don't have to buy right now.

Some dealers are "trying" to get $15k over list for Honda Civic Type-R's and Subaru WRX STI RAs.

I approached a dealer about a new Type-R Limited. List is right at $42k. He quoted me $68k. frick that.

$40 for nitrogen? $195 locking lug nuts? Who is stealing the wheels off of a Nissan Rouge?

I'd tell them I'm not paying it. They can swap out the nitrogen for air and take off the wheel locks... or they can not deal with the hassle and give it for free... their choice.

I'm hoping I don't get in any sort of bad accident the next few years. I have a 2016 and 2019 vehicles so I'm hoping to avoid car shopping for the next few years.

I was in a position that my 2013 truck would fail any day, so I had to buy.

Once I figured out that brand new trucks were being sold with far fewer chips, and therefore less features at the same high prices, I gave up on new. 2021 GMC Sierra with no phone charger and no bumper sensors for parking...

So I moved to gently used. Used CarGurus and found a 2020 Sierra that was loaded with 20k miles. They tried to tack on $4800 for "market adjustment" and the nitrogen and wheel locks and all that. I told them I would give them $1000 less than listed price or we were done talking. CarGurus showed the truck had been on the lot for more than two months, so I figured they wanted to get rid of it.

They agreed, and delivered it from Houston for free. Bought this truck 95% through text messages. Much more pleasant than dealing with the buzzards at the dealership.

However this a supply issue. Dealers have no way of selling on volume, so they have to milk the few cars they can sell.

Yep. Try buying a waverunner or other toy.

Sticker price is up, additional fees such as uncrating and setup. No negotiating whatsoever.

Yeah, but, they'd only get away "market adjustments" like this with certain vehicles, usually when they were first released. Something like a new Corvette.

Now it's every car. Absolutely horrible time to buy a car.

Yep. When I was in the market for an 06 GT500, I called every dealership in Alabama, and a few in Mississippi. Allocation was low, with some dealerships not getting any. The ones that did, were adding $10K-$15K to the sticker. I found a convertible in Columbia, MO for $5K over. Made the deal over the phone, got on a plane the next day. Drove it home. The new, full-size Broncos are on Ebay for $110K!! I was watching a Mecum auction recently, and they auctioned off the first one. Ford rep said every Bronco being made for the next two years, is already sold.

I wonder how much value having a model on the lot matters to getting buyers to order one. If they sell their only model in stock without a huge markup, they may be losing additional business. Annoying for those of us that can wait, but if there are people desperate or wealthy enough to pay that premium to buy it now, they’d be foolish to sell it for any less.

Bought a new car this summer. Last time was 2013. Went from we'll give you a discount if you finance through our bank to here is the price, if you don't finance through our bank there is a $1,500 surcharge.

ok.. took the loan and paid bank in full 5 days later.

There was a $2000-$4000 dealer mark up on Honda vans back in 2006? when the style changed.

Was at the dealer last week and overheard a $100 add on for supply chain disruption? Nuts charging because you have to wait a month to get a new car

Even if the supply issue is resolved, demand will remain high, prices are not going to tumble any time soon if ever.
