When did dealers start this crap?

Literally decades ago. How is this news to people?

And what’s the problem? It’s their inventory; they’re entitled to set whatever price they’d like.

I've bought my fair share of new cars over the last few decades. First time I've ever seen an upcharge for nitrogen in the tires on a new car. Wheel lock lugs? Y'all do realize they sell for $20-30 on Amazon, right? Anybody know how to get the locking nut off if you lose the key socket? It's not hard.

I'd be negotiating that, or I'd walk.

Some dealers are charging $10-15K above MSRP for trucks. I have no idea why people are buying them, but apparently they are.

You don't have a choice. My daughter just got a new Civic and I was floored by the process. In my day I would have negotiated down from MSRP $1-2k.
She was told you're paying msrp plus $1k or don't waste their time. She then had to wait two weeks for the car to arrive b/c every new Honda Civic and Accord that hits the lot is sold within 1-1.5 days unless it's the most expensive models.

I was pissed but she's an adult and did this with her mama. I was set on an ole janky arse used car but nobody listens to me.

I can answer this:

Anyone who had ever lost their "locking nut key". Those things are pointless.

Everyone thinks that but right now in this market, you're walking. I thought it was negotiable too but my good friend works at the dealership where my daughter got her civic. He confirmed that NOBODY is getting a deal or discount. That market adjustment is NON negotiable b/c the next customer will pay it.

Not to mention, people who steal wheels on a regulars basis, have several keys for those when they go out looking.

As far as dealer markup, I get that. It's a sellers market, but damn! $240 for nitrogen and lug nuts?? I guess a sucker is born every minute.

Not that I've been in the market for a new car recently, but with inventories down you really don't have much of a leg to stand on when negotiating. If you pass on it over a $500 bullshite fee, they aren't going to give a shite if you walk away because someone else will be willing to pay the fee tomorrow.

Don't get me wrong, I love being the biggest a-hole I can be when buying a car just to get the best price but a sellers' market is a sellers' market.

Would be funny to ask them to remove it. “I’ll take regular air please”

Back in the 70s, dealers would put an item called “ADP” on the addendum sticker. It stood for “additional dealer profit”.

That's not true at all for new cars above MSRP.

I ordered a Lund Pro V fishing boat today. Won't be made until February at the earliest. They're all the same MSRP but most dealerships are charging 1200-1500 for regular dealer prep and marked up labor costs and accessories like Ram mounts, etc that they are over charging for.

I ordered from a dealer 8 hours away because they would order it exactly the way I wanted it and no bullshite fees. I'm retired so I don't mind a 2 day ordeal to pick it up.
