Mechanical switches and a humidity sensor is all you need

Have a 26 year old Maytag electric that’s never missed a lick.

Have to run mine like 5 times thanks to sensors. The smart appliances are largely shite
Are there no settings for high heat and a timer to set it and forget it.
I have an older model that has sensor dry setting and it will dry clothes by sensing it is dry, but if you don’t take the clothes out or get it off the setting it will restart itself and stop a few minutes later. It is dumbest setting and doesn’t get the clothes completely dry. That is why I set the old timer that you can hear ticking away and high heat.
Last Friday night the belt broke and I had to replace it. Luckily Lowe’s carries the belts, but it still wasn’t turning right, one of the guide wheels had a bad bearing, so I ordered a kit on Amazon on Friday near midnight and it was at my house on Sunday afternoon.

The apartment I live in has a dumbass washer/dryer all in one unit by LG. The worst. It takes 4 hours to wash and dry one load of clothes and they still come out wet. Would never recommend

I get mine old fashion on marketplace or craigslist for 100 bucks. First one lasted 2 or 3 years, 2nd one is about 2 years in. Ive got 7 people in my household so 2+ years is fine w me. Big reason i went cheap is because these things arent that hard to fix. You can buy a bag for 15 bucks that has replacement heater and sensors for these buggers.

Sensor technology in dryers doesn't survive the brutal conditions inside of a dryer cabinet. I've had my pair of Speed Queen washer and dryer for 11 years and counting, no issues whatsoever. I'd much rather spend money on quality than continue to feed the demons of planned obsolescence and predatory capitalism.

Speed Queen products are wonderful! We used Maytag FOREVER. Our last Maytag washer & dryer were crap. Recently switched to Speed Queen and their basic 'traditional' model is AMAZING!

I don’t need a dryer with all of them features , just dry the clothes . Same with washer , wash , spin , rinse is all I need .

My friends have a LG washer and dryer, the dryer went out. They bought a SQ dryer, that’s the best dryer I’ve ever used. They are waiting for the washer to die off. It’s unbalanced, I put a couple pool noodles between it and the dryer, works better.

A clothes line doesn't tell you any of that

Good ole days. We live in a disposable society now. Elderly neighbor who lives alone bought whirlpool washer dec 2023. Crapped out last week. 2 yrs??

My wife finally got fed up for the last time a few weeks ago. She texted me and said I just spent $3700, I was like umm ok. She said you've talked about these speed queens for years because of your stupid message board so I called Ivan Smith and bought em.
Guess I should've maybe not talked em up so much. She does say they're great though.

It’s refreshing to see someone take responsibility for their actions. Good for you OP.

Easy workaround - set it to the Bedding setting. We did that with our LG and it’s been fine.

My parents had the same dryer for 30 years.
Damn clothes burned me when I put them on.

My parents got married in 1983. They were gifted a new microwave and a washer/dryer set from family.
Microwave died in 2015. They’ve been through 3 since.
Washer/dryer stopped working in 2010ish. They’re on their 4th set.

If you've got the same LG as me, you can override the sensor and do a manual dry by selecting "timed dry" and a heat setting. Normal mode has the eco dampness BS

I have a basic Kenmore and I use the timed dry option. This bypasses a sensor and just cooks the clothing on a gentle heat up to a High heat setting. When this one craps out I’m looking for another used one.
I did by a new GE agitator style washer and what aggravates me about it is that it will halt the spin process unless the basket is nicely balanced. An old Kenmore would spin and make a ton of noise, maybe hop a bit, but would get the job done. This GE will stop, add water, try to balance the load and spin again, stop, try to balance with more water, etc……. The fix is to manually stop it and manually balance the pile of wet clothing. What a pain.
