I really enjoyed the Kingfish back in the day. The games against the IceGators were legitimate rivalry games with a rowdy crowd. Have they officially announced a team coming yet?

I’m on the Lafayette side of this rivalry, but agree.. IceGator and Kingfish games where always exciting

I liked Kingfish.

Not yet but Baton Rouge and Virginia are listed as expansion teams for the 2023 season in the FPHL league.
Team will likely be called the Baton Rouge Capitals.
There's another thread where I mentioned my conversation with one of the league reps who's leading the push to get a team back here.

Great, now upgrade that run down River Center. Looks about the same or worse than it did when the last Kingfish game was played there.

I don't know for sure but someone could still own the rights the that name.
You also have to think about marketing and merch.
I was a huge Kingfish fan but I'm OK with a total restart. Maybe I'd feel different if the team was playing in the ECHL again.

I never realized how many people enjoyed hockey down here until I met an old baw at work that used to play in a league at Leo's by Cortana. He also plays a good bit somewhere in Lafayette and Houston. I know they were pretty upset when Leo's closed years back.

LOL I played in that same league years ago... I was actually MVP of their "championship" game in like 1991... born and raised in Pittsburgh but was never a Pens fan

How so considering there alot of lower minor-league teams with the same name of a major league team.
Maybe it will turn out to be an issue but I really can't see the Washington Capitals going after a A1 minor league developmental team unless they ripoff the logo or something.
