Let's not forget, Will Smith has had anger issues in the past and was arrested for battery of his wife. He was no angel. He didn't deserve to die, but no one here truly knows what happened yet
I was guilty of jumping to conclusions when I heard what happened last night and was sure it was an attempted carjacking by a thug POS. So much more info has come out since then.
I don't think a thug POS would have been the first to call 911 and then wait for the cops. He wasn't being held at gunpoint by an off duty cop either, like some had reported.

except that lawsuit was settled and why the piece of shite was even driving a hummer in the first place
I wonder what the details were? Cop feared for his life? Did the perp sign a NDA?

True its not drew
I agree, but seeing the shooter I doubt his side of the story. It doesn't make alot of sense.
I know it is his job to do it, but this would be the shitty part of being a criminal attorney is representing a client that killed someone that is well known in the city.

Yeah ok. Shooting and murder totally justifiable.

And let's not forget that his initial reaction was to chase them down and ram them in response.

I've read only one gun was recovered from the scene
Superintendent was very specific at press conference. He was asked if any other guns were found. He said only one gun was "confiscated." No follow up because reporters suck.

OR he was trying to drag his wife out of a club to get her out of a physical altercation and she was giving him a really hard time about it.

This. If the perp's family has a pending lawsuit where the cops used "feared for my life" as justification for killing his father then that would be an interesting twist. Forces them to contradict themselves.
Was settled out of court.

Pretty sure the family was awarded $4 million from that case.
I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

so its ok to drag her out by her hair, mmmkay. Shocking perspective coming from what seems to be a woman

The lawsuit asked for 4 mill.
The city offered each kid 80K
The kids countered with 120k each.
I just read it. I don't have the link, but it was a fox sports website.

He then rear ends smith.
That is a felony. It shifts the self defense arguement to Smith's side. Hitting someone intentionally with a vehicle is assault and other possible charges. Do it to a cop and tent slap you with attempted murder.
So stop with the what ifs.....you can't follow and shoot people. He could have called 911 IF he was hit and run'd.

I was wrong, they settled out of court. But still, I was replying to the cops using the argument for killing his dad. He was still awarded damages.

Verbal altercation" ensued. What if he thought Smith was reaching for a gun? Stand your ground
You forgot "feared for his life"
Since these justifications are used successfully by cops a few times a week there is no reason they should not be applicable here.

idk, i feel like they'll do everything in their power to make an example out of this guy, whether he's guilty or not

IF someone rear ends you, there is no law that allows you to follow, stalk, wreck, and murder them.
This is still America, you are free to do anything you want unless there is a law prohibiting it, not the other way around.

Witnesses say they saw Hayes with the gun approach Smith's vehicle.
Why would he rear end the man, have a gun out already, and shoot the man in his car in his back multiple times if he wasn't the aggressor..
even if smith was reaching for something, he had every right to try to protect himself from a lunatic carrying a weapon at his door.
