Similar 2 years ago. Nail turned purple within 2 hours. Finger a little numb after a few weeks. Worst part is when it starts separating and gets hung up on EVERTHING! Took about 6 to 8 months to get to a point where I could cut off the main part of the nail. I still get weird feelings in the end of that finger.

Comminuted fracture. Take a small drill bit and twist it into the nail by hand. It'll relieve the pressure. Splint it and make an appointment.

Drill it or hot needle it right next to the quick, the blood buildup under that nail is only gonna get worse. Be a cartoon character throb in it shortly and the nail is toast anyway

When I was in college, I was standing in a doorway in the dorm talking to a friend. Another kid ran in quickly, then slammed the door (as a joke). The only problem was my finger was smashed by the hinge side of the door (it was also stuck between the frame and the door). I was yelling for the door to be open, took about a minute before they realized that I was really hurt.
The finger was flattened and spread out, and it hurt like hell. Thankfully, had a great surgeon. However, to this day the end of that finger is very sensitive.
