1. Hi-Ho BBQ in Hammond, Louisiana. I first ate here around 82 or 83 when I was 5. I'm currently sitting here enjoying a beef, a beef with cheese, fries, and a Barqs.

I was 5 in 1961, and it was an old white building on a gravel road across from a field of pecan trees.

I could play a pin ball machine and win a real knife.

Ever been to Oakwood Diner in Dalton?

Oakwood Cafe? I've been there a year or so ago. Had breakfast and enjoyed it! I don't remember it from when I lived in the area.

Been too long, I need to get over to Lea's Lunchroom in Lecompte.

I responded to another poster, but I love their pies. I only discovered it in 2017, and I stop by to get pie and coffee when I travel for work.

Oh man! I've been there more than a few times with grandparents and cousins. It's been years! Is it still open?

Bud's Broiler on Jefferson Hwy between Ochsner and Elmwood. Ate there a bunch as a kid and still swing by whenever I can.

I still grab a poboy from A&M market or a Burger from Raoul's when I'm in the area.

All my childhood eating memories are gone.

Except for Veillon's I guess. Solid boudin and sausage.

My favorite place as a kid in LA was Burger Chef in Thibodaux. Probably 3 or 4 when I first ate there. Of course it’s long gone.

My parents liked Danny’s Fried Chicken but I don’t remember it.

Spoons in Houston was my favorite as a pre teen along with the chicken fried steak at Hickory Hollow

KY Bicycle Shop in Slidell was my favorite. The husband and wife there are the definition of resiliency in my opinion.
The house jelly they market there tastes absolutely industrial.

Do not recommend

Cooter Brown's - New Orleans. Not really an eatery, it's a bar. But it has some of the best bar food around. Spent many a night there a long time ago.
Great for watching football games.

The reality is these places - if they have survived - mostly use cheap, disgusting ingredients.

I will submit Lea's in Lecompte as the poster child.

Another place in BR that was NEVER actually any good, but yet boomers constantly slobbed over, is Frank's

The hipsters that think every old place sucks and only want something new and trendy are more insufferable imo.

Not really a small town eatery but I really miss Pancho's. When I was at LSU if you showed a student I.D. the buffet was a buck 99.

It’s actually a small chain with a location in Bossier and Shreveport too, but Griffs in Ruston is the closest thing left from my childhood to a small town favorite.

Mr Gattis in Denham.

I know it’s a chain, etc…
But can remember going there since I was a kid with my parents, back. When they still served beer.

Think of my dad every time I go
