How on earth is the average UNDESIRED weight loss 26lbs?? So almost 20% of adults loss weight even though they didn’t want to? And it wasn’t just a few pounds - 26lbs?
Stats like this make me believe this entire study is full of shite. You don’t lose 26 lbs in America if you don’t want to.

Those numbers, gaining 30 - 40 lbs, in one year seems like can’t even be true

How do you gain 41lbs in a year?
ROUGHLY 1 lb of body fat = 3,500 calories
41 X 3,500 = 143,500 excess calories consumed, or about 5 honey buns.

Well doesn’t sound like yours is “undesired,” so congrats

The link doesn't give any insight into methadology, but that doesnt make any sense. Many people lost a lot of weight over the last year, but the undesired part doesn't make much sense

Seems like running was the only thing you could do a year ago when "lockdown" was actually a thing in the US.

This is anecdotal, but I know some people that hit hard times and their weight just fell off instantly. Depression is a bitch.

Of course they do. Think back to when the "shutdown" first started. The products that went first were every bit of pasta (plenty of sauce to be bought, mind you) and bread....not a single macaroni or slice of bread left in the joint. Then, the cereal isle got wiped out. Then all the pop tarts and other bullshite. Snack cakes and chips....
gone! It was that way for weeks.
Fresh produce and actual ingredients to cook with, other than cornmeal (those frickers couldn't make a decent pan of cornbread to save their lives) for some reason, were plentiful. Then, the mouth breathers figured out that restaurants would be open for carry-out and that they still couldn't cook. They went ahead ate all the bread and other garbage, though.
They were smart, though. They knew eating all that garbage would give them the drizzling shits, so they bought three pallets of toilet paper, too.

I lost weight. Damn pandemic has hurt my social drinking skills
The pandemic actually helped force me to eat healthier and save money in the process. Working from home is getting very old, but it's not without tremendous benefits.

Depending on the diet, you can lose 6-7 lbs of water weight very quickly. Gaining 30-40 lbs in a year is another story. That's hard to do; and likely some depression or self-esteem issues are also present contributing to it.

This is a wonderful view of our society.
This was the perfect time for individuals to better themselves.
Clearly, that didn’t happen.

i mean i get it.
just seems like if folks had even an ounce of discipline they would lose weight by using all that extra time at home to properly prepare healthy meals and drink more water.

Early 30s and saw my weight really balloon up during the middle of last summer. Mostly because I was drinking more frequently. Lost 27 pounds so far and trying to lose another 15-20.

Saw a good portion of people in mid 20s collecting unemployment and were just drinking daily. If the gyms were closed and people just dgaf, I could see it happening easily.

That's what happens when their overlords preached, "Stay in save lives" when they should have preached, "Get up, get moving" in an effort to better people's health and decrease those comorbidities.
