I would have been scared shitless if I was the tourist. The instructor loosened his harness and, when the chute deployed, the instructor kept going while the tourist remained safe underneath the parachute. Have to admit, that's a pretty boss way to go out. I'd rank it #2 behind the guy who blew up and collapsed his own apartment complex just to keep it from going to his ex-wife in the divorce.

Can you imagine being in mid-flight and dude just starts loosening up all the straps? And you just staring around trying to figure out what the hell is going on?

I dunno. But he sure gave the other guy a story he will talk about until he dies.

Maybe he was trying to get a life insurance policy to pay out?

Although most life insurance policies exclude dangerous pursuits like sky diving

And none of them will pay out for suicides. Having the tourist there to watch and explain the whole thing kinda screws that idea.

Reminds me of the Bill Burr helicopter story...

Possibly trying to make it seem like an accident rather than intentional act.

What a selfish way to go. Insurance doesn't pay out on this type of death activity. He should've driven his car into a lake and drowned like any other smart suicidal person.

Between this and the hang glider incident, I'm gonna keep my happy self on the ground for a bit.

Tandem jumps typically are made with the student and instructor in separate harnesses that are attached, with the instructor secured behind the student. The instructor wears the parachute and controls its deployment during free-fall and landings.

So he rigged it differently so that the tourist had the parachute? Or did the student have a spare chute that the instructor activated before unbuckling from him?

Really? He dragged someone else into his stunt. That's a shitty way to go out leaving someone else with the memory of them committing suicide.

Does life insurance cover suicide? Depending on the terms of the policy’s suicide clause, suicide may not be covered, but this clause is usually only in effect during the first few years of the policy.

Most of them only exclude suicide for a specified period of time.

Mine pays in full for suicide once the policy is in effect two years.
