Since Sears closed.

covid mainly, but they had reduced stocks before that, but with covid there were none in stock ever and everything was by order only
the days of just buying something and going home are over, they just make an appointment date you can expect it to be delivered to the store

Yup, I am calling in the am to verify the used one I found is still there.
And lazy people are somewhat to blame because it use to be that items were kept in stock, people drove and shopped in stores and delivery cost extra. Now customer service is nonexistent, nothing is kept in stock and must be delivered, "free of charge", which was really just tact on to the cost of the item.

How is a store not stocking appliances the fault of "lazy fat people"?
I KINDA see where OP is going here. I’ll use Blockbuster as an analogy. I’m 36 y/o going on 55, because I hate being shut-in at home. I know I can get whatever movie I want at the touch of a button, but there are many times I’d rather go to a rental store and browse. It gets me off the couch, and I’ll stumble across some random titles I wouldn’t have thought of, and I get to interact with a person at some point.
If I’m getting an appliance, I’d rather see it in person. Open it up, see with my own eyes what the space is like. If I want a car, I want to test drive.
This generation doesn’t want to do that. Sure, I can save time by shopping online, but some things I’d rather see in person first.

Exactly, technology has ruined people.

Just checked lowes.com and the Lowes in Metairie has several models in stock with at least 15 units on hand. Several others stores in the region had other models in stock. Sounds like you just did a poor job shopping.

Since covid started and they couldn't get things from CHI-NA

The local Home Depot told me, years before covid, that they had only floor models. All orders were filled by delivery from Dallas. Lowes used to have some appliances in stock, but that could have changed since covid/supply chain issues.

hell...then like the cable guy, delivery in a week or so between 8 and 4....
Reminds of the John Capparulo joke about the cable company when your cable goes out. "Welllllll we can't come out today, but we can be there tomorrow between 10 AM and... Thursday.. you gonna be home?"

Dryer went out over the weekend. The one I wanted/bought won’t be here till late next week. Had to go to the lake to get the one from there so I can dry clothes for the next ten days.

Lowes had them in stock whenever I needed one.

Probably about the same time car dealers decided they no longer needed to have any vehicles actually on their lots.
That’s false. The lots are full again like normal. Prices are staying up though

Why buy a mattress from a local store. All brands can be ordered online for half the price and delivered to your front door before the stores can get it
Some people are too old and stuck in their ways. I've been in a store, found something I liked, and while in said store, pulled out my phone, found an online promo code and ordered that same item online.

I bought one from Lowe's a month ago. They had several models in stock. My freezer was delivered the next day.

Better measure twice.
They also do not allow returns.
New policy.

Its not just appliances. Lots of things I'm looking for I end up having to order online cause you cant find it in stores anymore.

I’m guessing you walk to the appliance store instead of driving your car? Bc you’re not fat and lazy and technology has ruined people.

Great for you, neither Lowes, HD, or BB had anything in stock and both L and HD said they no longer carry stock in the stores unless it's being discontinued.
