Because catching people unaware means more money in the short term.

Pissing away what little goodwill there is toward this program isn’t a consideration for the city.

if you ever, at all, plan to park on a street in Orleans Parish, then you should pay the ticket.. anywhere else in the country, you can ignore photo tickets but in NOLA, though they’ll never increase your insurance or affect your credit or result in a warrant for your arrest- you WILL get booted and then have to pay whatever you owed for ticket(s) plus various and sundry fees and charges.

No other city does this?

At this point you may as well stay if you didn't leave in '05.

I can attest to this. I got one for going 24 in a 20 at the end of February. NOLA, come as you are, leave pissed.

I got a jaywalking ticket in Vancouver, BC when I was 19. I was spending a summer in Bellingham with my uncle at the time. I guess I can't go back there. I wonder what my fine is 22 years later?
So you are the “Tater Salad” of Vancouver?

OP: LaToya is qualified to be a large-city mayor like I’m Gnarls Barkley.

To expect her to make good decisions concerning NOLA is akin to thinking Maduro is qualified to run Venezuela.

My uber driver held me up in New Orleans. He didn't even drop me off at the appropriate destination.

By lowering those thresholds without notice, the city essentially has been ticketing drivers who had taken officials at their word about what speed would result in a citation.

Saw this in the Advocate this morning. How nice of the city administration to not announce the lower speed allowances in their camera system.

Just another way to generate a money grab without putting police on the streets to enforce traffic laws by using their discretion.

Got one on Napoleon. 4 (four) miles per hour over! In a school zone at 4:39 pm. School zone ends at 4:45.

I believe most school zones are from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 2:45 - 4:45 p.m.

I am still amazed that not one lawyer in Louisiana has stepped up to fight these tickets and publicize the fact that Louisiana has a law that makes this practice illegal.

LA RS Code 32.365(B)
quote:

Law enforcement officers of the state or any political subdivision thereof shall be authorized to operate video recording equipment and monitors in their law enforcement vehicles while in the performance of their duties. However, this provision shall not be construed to allow law enforcement officers to record vehicles in violation of traffic safety laws with citations for such violations to be mailed to the alleged violator at a later date.
