Fun fact: While this is being done, the exit ramp that actually leads from 49 into downtown is out of operation. I guess their temporary solution was to throw a big pile of sand at the base.....it has been there so long that the grass is about 5 ft tall at this point. Glad we get a light up bridge tho

Lol, one of my favorite childhood memories was when they flipped the switch at the reveal and a lot of lights didn't work. Even back then as a child I realized what the leadership of Shreveport was like. They spent so much time hyping up the neon bridge.
It will however actually look cool with modern LED's.
Anybody else remember when the leadership got the whole city hyped about Boeing (I may be wrong what company it was) considering moving to town. They invited residents downtown on the days the the Company people were there, there were signs everywhere, My school took off and went, and in the end the company quickly passed on Shreveport.

They finally put a turn signal at the base of the bridge where HWY 80 turns left on to HWY 1 on the Shreveport side.
A much bigger deal than re-lighting the bridge, IMO.

It was McDonnell Douglas--and a humiliating failure.

Wrong. It's I20, and a train took out the footing on the Common St overpass. They've been working on it for 3 months. Do you even go downtown?

Haha same here. I think I was in about third grade. I also remember that not only did the lights not come on, the fireworks lit the bossier dump on fire.

Why are they highlighting KKK with the lights
That's what I see too. Does that make me a racist?

No lie, those Red White and Blue LEDs look legit

Lol I was on the bridge along with a ton of others on opening night. Pretty sure about a total of five lights actually lit up. Definitely a “Stonehenge” from spinal tap moment.
Was it on New Year's Eve? If so, wife and I helped pass out black eyed peas (a Harrah's project).

The original plan included a green laser beam that would shoot down Texas Street over the Methodist Church steeple. One of the biggest disappointments of my life was that I never saw it.
They only turned it on briefly. The damn bulbs would go out because of traffic or something, I don't recall the details, but it cost like $10,000 to replace a bulb. They shut it down pretty quick.
Because of that, I never believe anything in artist's renditions of public spaces.

I was about to mention this. I think I saw the lasers one time. It always cracked me up every year at the I-Bowl when they would show Shreveport on Tv, the bridge lit up would be something that was a showcase for the city.

At the time, MD was looking for sites to build their “Super Jumbo” to compete w/ Boeing’s 747. It wasn’t humiliating in any way to SHV. Many cities were competing for this. I don’t think you know what the hell you’re talking about. To be fair, that plane was never built & MD merged into Boeing in late 90’s.

Might have been. I do remember it was freezing that night so it definitely could have been New Years. Lol I forgot about the landfill or dump catching fire! I remember standing on the bridge and wondering wtf all those fire trucks were doing. I mean the heart was in the right place but it for sure turned into a shite show.
