The killer will be someone who sets up booby traps and finds ways to lure people to those places. He or she wouldn't actually be at the scene when someone is killed.
You mean like John Kramer?

It is no business of anyone above to be in my gem vault. If they get past the false wall, enter the antechamber, and go beyond the posted warning signage and continue on to the gem vault they deserve everything that is coming to them. I don't care how "mental" you think I am, I am not letting anyone get out alive with my priceless gems.
That isn't boobytrapping your home though. It is a vault protecting your valuables. Seems much more reasonable.

That sounds like a quote from Oceans 11

One of the key words there being "abandoned."
You cannot defend property with deadly force.

Fireman enters home to put out fire ... fireman dies. Not a good outcome.
I met someone who claimed to have been arrested for a trap in the 80's. Never really believed him, but that was enough to verify it was in fact illegal.

This is how I feel with the caveat that such home post a sign in the front of their home that a reasonable person would notice.
Two problems even if you have a warning.
1 What happens if you die and your kin either doent know how to disengage the trap or dont care about the property and you have not left any details about the danger. You are leaving a deadly trap for who ever might have to enter the property in the future. Imagine some poor realtor trying to sell the home for your family after your death gets killed because of your actions.
2 What if some unforseen event(lighting strike) necessitates emergency personal like fire fighters to enter the home.

Too many “what ifs.” If we defined every law or right by “what if,” we would have no right to bear arms or freedom of speech.

so why did you make this thread?

that and the concept of life > property are why it's illegal

If you aren't suppose to be there don't go there
If it ain't yours then don't take it

So you supported gun confiscation then?

The point is that your trap is just as likely to harm an innocent person as a criminal.

I'm saying that's the basis for the law... an abandoned house is property. Entering it with the intent to commit a crime in no way puts your life in danger and does not warrant deadly force.
How many times have you called or met with your elected officials about this if you're so upset you can't legally do it?

Sounds like a great way to kill a wife or husband. Almost as easy as taking them hunting

I’m willing to bet booby trapping your home would kill more home owners than intruders.

Can't use deadly force to protect property.
Use dye packs.

So I can't live on the same premises as my vault?
And it's OK to heavily protect my "valuables" -- but not my family?

Yes and no. I don’t think you should be able kill someone just for tresspassing on your property, but you should have the right to defend your home and property. If some crook breaks into your house and dies as a result of a booby trap, that’s his fault. The crook had no business being there.
