Should you be allowed to booby trap your home?

Currently I’d think in most if not all states, it’s illegal. Cases like Katko v. Briney before the Iowa Supreme Court ruled the homeowners had a duty to not deadly traps for trespassers (they rigged a spring gun shotgun in an abandoned home on their property that went off on an intruder).
Do you agree with this?

Do you want to booby trap your house?

Of course not, any deadly action should be required to be actively taken - not just sort of rigged and set to go off at some point in the future.
Does this really need to be asked?

That's pretty funny.
Would be a funny twist in a horror movie. Chick is running from the killer and finds an abandoned house to hide in. Gets in and is shot up by a rigged shotgun.

I have no problem with it being legal. Don't show up where you're not welcome.
You steal stuff in Brazil and get caught, you get your hand shot through with a .44 mag

What if a kid, 13 or younger, went into the abandoned house just to do stupid shite that kids do and had their head blown off? Yeah I know decisions have consequences but I don't agree with setting booby traps.....I'm OK with the booby part tho

If we can kill babies we should be allowed to kill intruders.

Yes and no. I don’t think you should be able kill someone just for tresspassing on your property, but you should have the right to defend your home and property. If some crook breaks into your house and dies as a result of a booby trap, that’s his fault. The crook had no business being there.

Sure, it's just going to suck when you accidentally blow out the mailman or neighbors kids brains

Cops open door, get their heads blown off. You have no problem with that? Because that's the issue.

The house isn’t abandoned if it has a trap.

This is how I feel with the caveat that such home post a sign in the front of their home that a reasonable person would notice.
It would say the home is defended (though not detailing where or how) and that if they have no business being there, to not enter. Therefore they have been warned and the homeowner’s duty ends there.
Why should a homeowner be liable for defending their castle against a trespasser?

Yes
And I should be able to own a howitzer and drive to work in a M1A1 Abrams

I don't have a problem with that. I've always wanted to electrify my doorbell or put spikes under the welcome mat or something like that. Of course I would need some way to turn it off too.

Or when you die and your son / daughter / relative tries to take care of your estate and you blast them away.
This is just a great idea where potential pitfalls are far outweighed by the good it could do.

That would actually be a pretty good scene in a horror film.
And the killer will not be your traditional type of killer like Jason Voorhees. The killer will be someone who sets up booby traps and finds ways to lure people to those places. He or she wouldn't actually be at the scene when someone is killed.
