Once we had someone in the neighborhood shooting mud on the white fence that leads into the neighborhood. I wanted to put some caltrops out but thought better of it.

Why should a homeowner be liable for defending their castle against a trespasser?
What if it's a cop responding to a call?

Who will be responsible when the cop has his head blown off?

Sounds like you just finished your first semester of law school.

No, should not be allowed to booby trap unoccupied property. Why? Because we value life over property as a society.

Yes, you can booby trap occupied property because it is a form of self defense.

Cases like Katko v. Briney before the Iowa Supreme Court ruled the homeowners had a duty to not deadly traps for trespassers (they rigged a spring gun shotgun in an abandoned home on their property that went off on an intruder).

Just hope the court makes the right decision.

Does the Girl Scout break into your house to sell you these cookies?

Sure, it's just going to suck when you accidentally blow out the mailman or neighbors kids brains

Read my post on the first page about the posted sign and duty to warn. That takes care of that. Why would a mailman or neighborhood kid be trying to forcibly enter your home?

Booby trap your home? No

Extremely long (30 years) mandatory prison sentence with hard labor for breaking into someones house or vehicle? YES

This all day

The penalty for breaking into someone's home whether you steal shite or not should be extremely severe. That is a serious violation.

Someone calls the cops and says there's a disturbance at your house, something really bad is going on inside.

Cops open door, get their heads blown off. You have no problem with that? Because that's the issue.

Some of you are dumb or can't read. What's with all the people just walking up and opening doors? Girl scouts, mail personnel, police, etc do not just walk up and open the door on a house. Not to mention, the door is likely locked and someone would have to force the door open.

Just get a german shepherd or a gun - anyone who would boobytrap has some serious mental issues. An alarm system and a gun allows a person to make an informed decision relative to lethal force, not just blow someones head off who may not even be aware of what they are doing.

This is the reason I used to love Home Alone so much. He used micro machines for booby traps.

Speaking of Home Alone...I'd be all for something non lethal such as the following...especially on my vehicle.

Kevin had a bb gun and fireworks.. You can do some damage with those two with a good plane, but he went beyond and above. Throwing water outside to make things slippery, the nail in the step going to the basement was good. That had to be painful as frick.

It is no business of anyone above to be in my gem vault. If they get past the false wall, enter the antechamber, and go beyond the posted warning signage and continue on to the gem vault they deserve everything that is coming to them. I don't care how "mental" you think I am, I am not letting anyone get out alive with my priceless gems.
