New findings indicate that the resurrection of mammoths is not a fantasy, a research team including members from Kindai University is saying, after cell nuclei extracted from the 28,000-year-old remains of a woolly mammoth were discovered to retain some function.
When placed in the ova of mice, the nuclei developed to a state just before cellular division, according to a paper published Monday in the British journal Scientific Reports.
The team includes researchers from Japanese and Russian universities. It has been working for about 20 years on a project to use cloning to resurrect mammoths, an animal that has long been extinct.

It's a horrible idea.
A) Wooly Mammoths are most likely social animals, being as to how they are related to elephants. You'd have to bring back a bunch at the same time, would you not? You can't just bring back one.
B) They went extinct for a reason, right? What is that reason? Does that reason still exist?
3) We'd probably find out that they also breath fire, can't be hurt and grow to be 300 feet long and are now pissed. The one we did bring back would destroy us in days.

I'm all for it. I'm for reverse engineering of dinosaurs from chickens, too.

It's not a raptor just a hairy elephant, I say yes.

We’ll bring them back and they can go through a 2nd extinction due to climate change killing them in 12 years.

But in this case, nature is selecting them to have another opportunity. Why are you separating human ingenuity from "nature"?
