The key word here is 'want'.. my overall goal in life is to retire early; early for me would be sometime in my 50s.. but I'm not opposed to working into my 60s and 70s-- if i WANT to work,, if at that point I NEED to work-- then life will have really gone sideways for me at that point.. i know that a lot of ppl are in the 'need' camp at advanced ages, and that saddens me a great deal.. it also provides motivation for me.

my dad is 122 years old, makes $4 million/month working as a bodybuilder, has worked for 110 years and has no plans on retiring

My grandfather was forced to retire at 85. Same for his brother and sister in the family business.
Not sure what it was about his generation but they worked. He is 93 and still mows his lawn, even though he doesn't doesn't need to.

I'm almost 57, good health and plan to work about 5 or 6 more years. I'm paying for my daughter's college (the portion her scholarship didn't cover) and PA school so she doesn't have to start off with huge debt. When she finishes I have 3 or 4 years to increase my savings and keep the 401K growing. Friends who retired in the last few years have pretty much all come back part time for outages or consulting due to the high cost of insurance(some didn't save and plan ahead).
As long as a person is productive and competent in their job and are healthy enough to do it, there is no reason to force them to retire.

If I set up my finances to where I can retire at 65 (or earlier) and live comfortably then frick yeah, I'm retiring. By the time I'm 65, I would have had a job at least part time for fifty plus years.
