This is a debate on reproductive rights. If you are incapable of participating without resorting to outrageous straw men, perhaps you should start a thread on how terrible deadbeat dads are.

Torrey 225,
I'm an RN that has seen and taken care of more children with deformities than I can count . Abortion due to rape ,incest and other acts are not are not the same as opting out . Some people view it as birth control .

Agreed, so lets argue correcting the shitty part instead of making it "fair" and making the problem worse.

of course, he can go to court to fight it if he wants

What is going on here?

I have twin 4 year old boys, and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that my wife can't just put them up for adoption if she wanted to.

Are people actually arguing that if they get a woman pregnant, then they can just skip out on raising the kid and never have to pay the mother of the child a cent? Get real people, im a millenial and I even think this is horrible. Kids growing up with no family is the worst problem in our country.

I completely agree. You shouldn't even have a kid to begin with if you are going to opt out of fatherhood. THAT is the main problem with society today. Like the old saying goes, it all starts at home.

Y'all know something? Excuses are like assholes, everybody has one!

Opt out as a father is as trashy as one can be. This is what is wrong with this country now. People don't want to take care of there business.

I don't have the energy.

The argument the men should be able to opt out purely based on the fact that women can, regardless if its a good idea is silly. Thats all im saying.

The proposal stipulates that men should be permitted to have a “legal abortion” up to the 18th week of a woman’s pregnancy.

So now women just won't tell men they are pregnant until the 19th week? Seriously what happens if the guy doesn't know? It should be 18 weeks after he finds out.

So you would rather enact a law that you feel is overall worse for society, just to be "fair"

Your assumption is that I'm advocating one way or another when I'm clearly doing nothing more than pointing out how abortion not only eliminates the child's right to life but also heavily tilts the balance of reproductive rights in favor of women.

Right, but the point is that women can opt out legally whenever they want, while a man has no option to opt out.

IMO, nobody should be able to opt out. If the woman can whenever she wants though, the man shouldn't be legally obligated to 18 years of being broke.

I'll tell you something I see happen more than you think.

A woman gets pregnant and tells the guy she is going to keep the baby but she won't hold him to it.

Guy thinks he's off the hook.

Woman goes to the hospital, has the baby.

She signs a form for the state to pay for her medical expenses and the hospital will have on the form a question. "Do you know who the father is?"

She writes "yes", and then gives the name.

The moment that is paid, DHS goes after the dad for payment.
