This.

Not to make this a pro life/pro choice debate. Abortion hands over all reproductive rights to the woman.

yes, absolutely

it has always bothered me that men have no rights when it comes to the abortion of their own child

positions are never argued in parallel when it comes to abortion. The baby's right to life is always compared to a random adult's stance on the death penalty. A mother's choice to kill a baby is compared to the government's incompetence when it comes to welfare. A man's right to have a say so in an abortion is compared to a woman's right to not have sex in the first place.

There are so many dumb comparisons and this and that. The only thing that matters is....does the unborn child deserve to die or not? Politics shouldn't matter, feminism shouldn't matter, and deadbeat fatherhood shouldn't matter.

The truth is we are a world full of selfish people who just wanna have an orgasm and split.

Terrible analogy. We're talking about consensual sex. Both parties agree to the act. If we're talking about rape, then your analogy would apply.

It wouldn't apply to rape either. The "house" is the vagina, the "gun" is the penis, and it is an extreme analogy.

So at our current state if the child is born, then it would be in the best interest of the child to hold the father financially responsible.

which is exactly why I would support this because it shows that we give zero shits for the "best interest of the child"

as long as abortion is legal, the man should also have the right to opt out

Because people don't like the concept of having to be held responsible for their own actions.

And with a simple procedure, a woman can opt out of her responsibilities to the child.

No possible way for the father to opt out of his responsibilities. Both he and the child have no say in this.

Look how ridiculous this sounds. People are advocating for the ability to easily walk away from their children.

Are people actually arguing that if they get a woman pregnant, then they can just skip out on raising the kid and never have to pay the mother of the child a cent? Get real people, im a millenial and I even think this is horrible. Kids growing up with no family is the worst problem in our country.

people are just advocating for laws to be fair to both responsible parties

at least in this case, people are not actually advocating for the ability of the father to kill the child...

unlike the laws that we already currently have

This is all predicated on abortion being legal, which it is. Its two different arguments.

It's not really. Abortion enables the woman to eliminate her responsibility to the child without consent or input from either the child or the father.

It's an interesting debate in the fact that abortion does much more than eliminates the rights of an unborn child to life - which is where the anti-abortion activists focus. Legalized abortion also eliminates the reproductive rights of fathers and ultimately cheapens their role and responsibilities in society.

Well outside of rape and if the mother's life is at stake, I'm not for abortion, so I'm not going to be for this either.

But if you think abortion should be legal, then this is a legitimate counter-point. If the woman has sovereignty over her body and all things in it, why doesn't the man have any sovereignty? Unless the man violated the woman's sovereignty through a rape, then why doesn't he get a vote?

Which once again, is super shitty for the child and its incredibly petty to say that well they have the right to opt out of the childs life so I will do the same.

Its the stance of a 7 year old small minded child.

Who cares if women have the better stance right now, be the better person and don't allow dads to skip out on child support any more than they do now.

Abortion enables the mother to do a lot more than walk away from her child. That's already legal.

I don't think people are advocating either way....just debating how abortion has severely slanted reproductive rights.

So we should compound the problem. Great fricking idea.

well for my stance at least, this is mostly just a backlash towards the feminist arguments about equality and the hypocrisy of it all

In a society where people are successfully advocating for the murder of a child they don't want, yes.

That is some serious spin.

People want to double down on a ridiculous law by facilitating the ability for the father to walk away from his child. If you want to point this out as hypocrisy in an effort to peel back the disproportionate amount of rights a woman has over the child, that is fine, but to argue that it should be a law is absurd.

Bingo.

It's pretty simple when you think about it:

Encouraging More Sex (Culture and Legal Structures) = More Sex Happening = More Chances for Pregnancies = More Pregnancies = More Babies Conceived into Bad Conditions = More Repercussions Culturally, Morally, and Legally

As a culture we just completely skip trying to deal with the first two, and only deal with the Chances for Pregnancy and onwards. We just accept that we have to deal with more chances for pregnancy. Then we try to balance the outcomes for each, which has been wildly unsuccessful.

For all the hate Boomers get, they don't get enough for setting us down the "free love," path and completely removing conscious thought and responsibility from the act of sex.
