Should I continue to tip service providers who don’t acknowledge they received a tip?

Mainly talking about my barber and masseuse. I give both of them extra, neither ever really says a word.

Are you tipping for good service or because you want their appreciation for giving them a tip?

Yes, but it doesn’t seen out of line for an occasional thank you for the extra.

I'm not sure I've received an "acknowledgment" for any tip I've ever given. I'd have to think about that one.

Let me take this time to encourage you to tip your wait staff cash ,and personally, if possible. The restaurant business is notorious for fricking servers out of their money.

I don’t expect anything from them.

But when you are standing in front of me and I hand you extra money? Yeah, have some class.

You can always go to Cold Stone Creamery and put a $1 in the tip jar to make their employees break out in a song and dance for you if that's what you want.

I kind of really flourished this $5 bill before I put it into the tip jar last night bc I wanted the cute waitress to notice that I was tipping well for takeout. She said thanks but I felt like a douche for being so dramatic about it. But I agree with OP the reason why I did it is bc it sucks to do that and not have them see.

Have you considered that you might have caught them off guard, as it’s not terribly common to separately hand people a cash tip anymore? Not to say people don’t tip cash, but it’s generally part of the larger transaction. Making a separate display of the tip is… odd.

Because by telling you thanks for tip is weird and awkward.

Modesty and politeness is what's necessary from both parties when tipping; don't be a weird douche when tipping and politely thank the person tipping you. If you expect more, go to the strip club or call one of DeShaun's masseuses.

My barber is 82 years old, and he always thanks me for the tip.

I don't tip at fast food type places where I get my own food from the counter.
