If you're not first you're last.

Here are the simple rules of baseball and softball that comes to plays at the plate.
If the runner has ample time to make a move to avoid a collision then the runner is expected to do so. A runner just can't lower their shoulder and go through the catch unless we are talking about the big leagues.
However, if at the last second the runner is just about to reach home plate and the catch, regardless of sex, age, or size steps back into the base path, no one would expect the runner to pull some heisman winning juke move or hall of fame slide to avoid the catcher. That is the catchers fault for getting run over.

Catcher shouldn't block the plate if they don't want to get run over

Well, it's not like I can place my hits. If it goes back up the middle it's an accident

Of course they shouldn't be allowed. It's fricking recreational softball for Christs sake

Who has the right to the base path?
Maybe the 1st basemen should stand in front of the bag to make the runner go around

I played in a league where every play at the plate was treated as a force out. There was a commit line halfway between 3rd and home and if you crossed that line you had to go home. Kept the games a little closer, and avoided home plate collisions........ I like it.

Only in church leagues.

Not sure how the rule reads for softball but for most levels of baseball, only the catcher can block the path if the throw is on the way. Other fielders must be in possession of the ball and then blocking is permitted. An infielder making a play on batted ball has right of way in the base path.

Nope
You must slide. Period. If you don't slide and there's a collision 99% of umps will call you out, and most will toss you from the game.
I played 15 years, all around the South, and nowhere were you allowed to run over the catcher. It's not MLB, no matter how much some of the douche bags playing think it is.

Your playing in a grown men's slower version of a girls game. Yet you want to be able to run over defenseless man with no pads.........I love millennials

You play to win the game.
Seriously though, I'd say both at fault. The baserunner is an a-hole for trucking the catcher, but the catcher also needs to use better situational awareness. If you see some big arse brute flying down the base path toward you, it is probably best to GTFO of the way.

No one on my squad would do it. But we arent assholes. As ive gotten older, ive tried my best to avoid being injured in recreational sports, or any other time, for that matter. I slid at second last game, and have a nice strawberry as a result. Cant imagine how sore id be after a home plate collision

Anyone with a tad bit of experience can avoid hitting a line drive up the middle most of the time.
Catchers shouldn't be trucked on purpose IMO when playing rec softball.
I quit playing because idiots thought they were getting a big check at the end of the game for winning.
