The gun was still in his pocket. He did not pull it out.

So, let's look at your thought process. You seriously believe the cops realized he had a gun in his pocket and decided to shoot him just because of that? He has a gun, has made no attempt for it, and they just shot him for why exactly? The only conclusion you can make from that is it was because he's black or because they were lazy and tired or wrestling with him. Now, does that seem logical to you? Do you truly believe that?

Or the alternative - They realized he had a gun while he actually attempted to pull it from his pocket to use it against the cops, was temporarily stopped in the middle of that process because two grown men were on top of him fighting for their lives to prevent him from doing just that. He continued to do that therefore putting both of the officers lives in danger and the officer was FORCED TO STOP THE THREAT.

I don't understand how someone can simply lack the basic logic to come to this conclusion. You literally have to think that they shot him because they WANTED TO rather than being FORCED TO.

Are you insane?

I really hope you are a preteen with this naive level of thinking. My 13 yo daughter even knows this is idiotic reason to call it "unjustified". Do you know he wasn't reaching for it? A criminal is fighting / wrestling with cop and has to pull the gun out before he is a threat??Do you know he wasn't reaching / trying to get the cops gun?? Honestly, If someone was wrestling with you and had a gun in their pocket, how would you feel if I told you that you can't defend yourself until they pulled their gun out first??

A gun in the pocket, a gun in the holster, a gun in the glovebox - none of these give justification to shoot someone.

its not the having a gun that gets you shot, its the tussling with the officers while they know you have a gun you stupid arse.

You're not 100% certain he wasn't trying to pull said gun out of said pocket.

See my post above.

And do you honestly think that "a gun in the pocket, a gun in the holster" ON YOUR PERSON is the same as "a gun in the glovebox?"

So, in your world a suspect has to draw the gun and put his finger on the trigger to justify lethal force?

Trust me, there are a lot crazier things going on in "her world" than that line of thinking

Yoga, tell me you are saying this just to get people worked up. You can not honestly say the shooting of Sterling was unjustified. If so please elaborate.

that chick is either retarded or trolling. In both cases she's not worth responding to.

By celebrating him, I think people are dismissing how crime and ill behavior are part of a vicious cycle destroying our communities. Why is it that our fellow citizens feel that someone who commits crimes should be more celebrated than people (especially minorities) who actually contribute to society and try to behave in a morally and legally responsible way

I don't know if "celebrating" is the right way to describe this. It's more likely to appear that because of what has been occurring in our society, there are perceived injustices with blacks being shot by the police, so sympathy for the victims usually follow. So far there has been higher profile cases dating back to at least 2009, what has appears to have been exposed is the lack of relationships between law enforcement and any of the predominately black communities they may serve.
