There is no good solution to this, it’s sad. I’ve thought about it a lot and almost every time I come up with a solution there’s a way these a-holes can use it against you. Idk what can be done, but something has to.

the problems are too deep rooted to be fixed easily. There's definitely a culture rot larger than the twin aspects of "gun control" and "mental health." Someone earlier said kids are raised by the internet these days. It's absolutely true. Look at any recent school shooter and their online trail is prolific. There is a lack of healthy socialization among younger Americans these days and I really think that's a big contributing factor.

You have no idea how the weapon was obtained.

Nor do I.

Don’t act like you do.

lol what's the difference? either way, it was easy for this person to acquire enough weaponry/ammo to kill a bunch of kids and teachers going about their business at school. it's too easy to get guns in the country whether he bought it at academy or on the street.

Hey shitbrick.

After Virginia Tech, most college PD's have access to every camera on their campus

You can easily do the same for HS campuses

except you get into all sorts of stalking, spying, etc. issues with CHILDREN who are still under their parent's care.

Violent video games, violent images & videos on the internet, violence on TV & in movies, easy access to weapons, disconnected families, and mental health issues make this a complex problem.

The bolded is the only thing that we have different than the other countries

However, I do not believe that is the only/main culprit here.

Because, even here in america, there has been a large increase in these shootings since 2011, and guns have not become easier to get

Most guns are by nature military style since they were developed for and used by the military. A musket is still military style.

The M9 has been around since the 80's. I'm not that fricking old.

I do have a 1911 though... guess that would be a "military style weapon" also.

yeah, really. it's not like diagnosing a broken arm. parents can force their kids to get a psych eval and the kid can feign normalcy despite being a depressed schizo.

You're not wrong here. The way around this is to be more aware of what's going on with your child at a younger age.

The general public is not even close to being educated on mental illness enough to recognize a lot of the signs though.

Exactly.

Saying we need to ban “military style weapons” is so ignorant.

I'm sure you're a smart guy, but I don't think you have a damn clue what you're talking about in this instance.

There have been 20 10+ fatality shootings in the U.S. in the last 70 years.

There are 300,000,000 guns in the U.S. by most estimates.

That is one mass shooting per 15,000,000 firearms.

The problem isn’t guns.

I can count the number of my high school teachers I would trust with a gun on one hand. In an active shooter situation, that number goes to 1

I wouldn't trust any unless they were former military.

I'm not advocating watching the instagram video linked in this thread but if you do, listen to the insanely loud rapport of the shots. Most non-combat trained civies would shite themselves upon hearing it.

Classroom lock sets default at lock from the outside.

My high school had a closed/locked door policy once class started. The newer wing had windows in the door, the older wings didn't so there was the disadvantage of not knowing who might be knocking at the door.

The classrooms can be secure as you'd like but the problem is that students aren't constantly in those classrooms which appears to be the case today. They're open targets when they're coming or going or moving between classes.
