Based on what? The people who could fight are just going to run to another enclave with their tails between their legs.

I remember people saying this after the first mall shooting, then the second. An injury from a shooting at a McDonalds might not even make the evening news

It is pretty lacking on the local media sites. Maybe people just don't care.

Did the fake St. George cops show up or are they making Baton Rouge foot the bill for their crime

Two things in this are nearly certain the shooter(s) were not from St George and they should likely have already been locked up for earlier crimes and not roaming freely in our civilized society.

You’re right, but it happened around midnight. I’m usually home by 11 so I’ve got that going for me.

Its time for some of you to make some big boy decisions and move out of that shithole state. Im the only person in my family that was able to escape and thrive in a new environment. Why do you all continue to choose to keep your families in that environment? There's so much better out there that yall will never know. Its pathetic, honestly

Comments like this are retarded bc youre just assuming that everyone has the financial ability, job flexibility, and desire to just say "alright kids grab your shite, tell your friends goodbye, we're heading to utah".

People have families, friends, and careers here. It is not the fault of good, law-abiding BR residents that it has turned into a shite hole. Nor should it be the responsibility of those residents to flea the life they have built for themselves and their kids bc our leaders dont want to do their jobs. Continue to push our elected officials to fix the shite that they helped create.

It's the equivelant of some black nationalists and Hotep hateful black dudes ranting about whitey and saying vile things about whitey on some message board black folks frequent.

Huh? Equivalent?

Baw, have you never been anywhere else online? You are literally referring to the entire rest of the internet including social media. Whites are the only race allowed to be openly hated online. This isn’t even up for debate.

Read the comments under any Twitter video of black people doing something ignorant and moronic in public. Or any news outlet Facebook post of black people getting arrested.

What is this "allowed" you speak of? There seems to be plenty of permission to hate on other races from our social media overlords. Not that I think that this type of speech should be banned. I just think that you are confused and have joined the victimization trend. Why do so many people find satisfaction out of feeling like victims and marginalized by society these days? It's a really strange trend.

Correct. But, people have also left their hometown in search of better paying jobs and quality of life for years now. Not to mention, this is the easiest time ever to find remote work compared with years ago when it barely existed.

Friends come and go and the older you get you realize you are more content with spending time with your significant other and your children. Everyone seems more busy than ever before. Yes, it’s great to stay in touch with friends, in particular, old friends but life gets busy.

Because of fatigue. It’s enough, lock up the criminals and don’t let them out. Lack of regard for others in the society needs to end. It’s both the individual and the parents fault

BATON ROUGE — Four men were charged Thursday in a March shooting that killed 8-year-old Davian Nicholas while he played basketball near his home.

Hunter Calligan and Jeremiah Tanan Scott, both 22, were indicted on second-degree murder in the killing. Scott was also charged with illegal use of a weapon.

Jeremiah “Meezy” Walter, 25, and Everett Chambers, 21, were charged with manslaughter. Chambers was also charged with illegal use of a weapon.

Nicholas was playing basketball with siblings at a basketball goal at the dead end of Toria Avenue, a few doors down from his home on San Juan Drive about 6 p.m. on March 8.

Earlier in the day, arrest documents said, two armed groups had been arguing. A dispute between Calligan and Walter led to the arguments, arrest warrants said.

“These arguments escalated throughout the day. The two groups exchanged gunfire on San Juan Dr., with one group positioned on foot near the intersection with S. Laredo, and the other group inside a moving vehicle near the intersection with Toria Ave.,” one of the arrest affidavits said.

Nicholas was shot in the exchange of gunfire and died a short time later at a hospital

Calligan lived at the house at the corner of San Jan and South Laredo, where deputies found a “large number of rifle cartridge cases” in the street after the shooting, the affidavit said. Investigators said Calligan told them he had a rifle and a handgun because he was expecting a fight with the other group, the affidavit said.

Scott told investigators he went to Calligan’s house in black clothing and a black ski mask. He brought an “AR-style rifle,” his arrest warrant said.

Walter and Chambers were in a Dodge Charger on San Juan, with Walter driving, Chambers’ arrest affidavit said. Calligan and Scott were outside Calligan’s house.

Walter drove toward Calligan’s house and investigators say Chambers fired a handgun at Calligan and Scott from the Charger, arrest warrants said.

Detectives believe Scott then stood in the street and fired back with his rifle. His position put Nicholas “in the direct line of fire,” Scott’s arrest warrant said.

Sheriff Sid Gautreaux called the crime a “heartbreaking and senseless tragedy.”

Katrina Culbreth, Nicholas’ aunt, told UWK it took away a child whose intelligence and personality left a lasting impression on everyone who met him.

“He’s pretty much a really, really smart kid,” Culbreth said. “He was the type of kid you’d catch reading books. He would play outside some, but he loved learning.”

Chambers pleaded not guilty in court Thursday. Scott and Calligan are set to be arraigned on Tuesday.
