When it’s black on black crime it’s like the black community doesn’t care. We have to wake up!

A suspected shootout inside the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover Friday afternoon killed an 8-year-old boy, who was shot in the head, and injured three others, police confirmed Friday night.

The gunfire erupted at 3:18 p.m. on the first floor of the state’s largest mall. Among the injured was 8-year-old Royta. His mother did not want her name used, but spoke about what happened.

One other juvenile was wounded, along with two adults, police confirmed at an 8:45 p.m. Friday press conference.

She said she and her three children and the childrens’ stepfather were waiting to get into Children’s Place, a child’s clothing store. Because of COVID-19 precautions, the store only allows a certain number of people inside at a time. The mother said three people had just come out but since there were more of them, they had to wait for one more person to exit.

All of the sudden, shots rang out. “We heard the gunshots and I grabbed them and we hit the ground,‘' she said. “When we all got up, he was the only one who didn’t get up.”

She said Royta just finished the second grade at Jonesboro Elementary in Bessemer. “That’s my baby, my firstborn,‘' she said. Family members said he is energetic and always smiling. He has aspirations to become a rapper.

“To the people who did this, if I could say anything to them, it’s I don’t care about justice or anything like that,‘' she said. “I wouldn’t say I’m religious, I would say I’m more spiritual, and the person who did this is going to have to answer for that whether it’s to whoever they pray to or if it’s the streets.”

there’s been two shootings in less than two years so if you’ve been to the galleria in the past two years you’ve had like a 1 in 300 chance of being there during a shooting.

Gotta rework those numbers ..there has been 4...yes 4 shootings there in less than two years.

Yeah well, that’s the bullshite that goes on everyday. “The Streets” means another black man will be gunned down, and more likely innocent bystanders will be too.

This IS the problem.

You know, that might be a fair point. In this specific case, I would support retribution by this child’s family. But I can appreciate your statement.

This is terrible.

I didn't know this happened. This is a huge deal.

Why didn't I know? My guess: the perp and innocent victim won't help the Democrats get votes. So, no outrage of this dead kid, just like the kids killed in Chicago every weekend.

These lives don't matter.

What happened in your life to make you such a miserable, hateful person? I can't even imagine

You need to sit down and really reevaluate yourself.

I have seen some examples of poor journalism come out of this. One AL.com reporter shared a photo of the place where the child was shot that was taken after he was transported away. The photo shows his blood all over the floor. A Fox 6 News anchor tweeted that they had seen a graphic video from right after the shooting that showed the child laying on the floor and the mother on the ground screaming, and that they were going to share it once they had permission. Why share that on the news?

Sad that journalism is about getting more views and beating other journalists to the punch than it is about getting facts correct while also respecting the privacy and tragedy of others.

This is why we should build malls in National Parks going forward.

My being upset over ANOTHER dead, innocent child makes me a hateful person?

Interesting take.

In order to get your approval, should I go out and burn something down, or kill an innocent civilian in the name of a Marxist movement? Would that suffice?
