You seem pretty conservative and it also sounds like you won’t wear these a lot. I would just go down and get something like some Rockports or something that will be comfortable and won’t go out of style.

The correct answer is always Allen Edmonds.
Dark brown brogues are a versatile option, or you could go with some basic derby shoes. Allen Edmonds Park Avenue or other shiny oxfords are too dressy for jeans. Suede is versatile, but don’t get that for your first pair.
Also, there are plenty of boots that aren’t cowboy boots or logger boots. C&J, Grant Stone, Viberg, and others have boots that work well for church and office, and also work with jeans.

Added accuracy to your statement.

some Rockports
I finally bought into the “brown shoe with white sole” trend with a pair of Rockport Dressports 2 Go plain toe oxfords. They were relatively inexpensive and are comfortable. They are definitely not a dress shoe in my opinion but perfect for the business casual corporate culture where I work. Wear them with plain front chinos (no crease, please) or jeans and you’re set.
Don’t forget to get a matching belt.

Depends on how casual you want to go.
On the more casual side that can be worn with chinos or shorts:
Rancourt Gilman Camp Mocs
If you want a bit less casual:
Rancourt Beefroll Penny Loafers
They have a darker Carolina Brown leather too, but I'm partial to Natural Chromexcel.
If you want a more streamlined look, which is a bit more "formal":
Grant Stone Travel Penny

Downvote away, but my Olukai shoes are comfy and have lasted a while so far.

Very stylish and don’t look like paw paw shoes, but more than anything they last.

This dude knows shoes. I had a pair of Alden’s once. I returned them not because it wasn’t a quality shoe, but because I didn’t like them enough to justify the price. I almost exclusively buy Allen Edmonds now because they have a shoe for just about any occasion. I have dress shoes, casual shoes, boots. Spent way too much on shoes!

Just get some Thursday boots or shoes and call it a day. Decent enough, pretty inexpensive, and break in relatively quickly.

Allen Edmonds Strand Cap-toe Oxford would probably be my choice...

Beckett Simonon
Though be forewarned that they are made to order, so you'll have to wait a month to get them in. But they can't really be beat at that price point for the quality.

This used to be true.
I wear American made Rancourt shoes. Dress shoes I use Alden - much better than Allen Edmonds.
I have three pair of Rancourt leather shoes. One pair gets use that borders on abuse. In the pasture, in the mud, working on the car. It has survived two new soles and I still wear it.
The other two get tough wear but are doing well.
My shoe guy (Sherman, Texas, fantastic work) fusses about my failure to use shoe horns regularly.
